Give Kirkup the job

It's too late in the season to bring a new man in, we can't afford the time needed for him to get to know our players, but it's not too late to remove Batch and give Kirkup the job.

The players know him and like him, and under his brief tenure pre Batch City played some really good football.

I suggested a few weeks back that we might have been better off with Kirkup in charge and Batch using his coaching skills as the assistant. he would also have been the link between the Youth set-up and the First Team. I am seeing nothing to alter my opinion.

It's not too late to act, but time IS running out.

I can see the logic (I think) in bringing David Batch in to develop the Academy players and that was and still is a good idea. And with a UEFA 'A' license I'm sure he gave a good interview based on tactical theory. But whoever made the decision to appoint him as first team manager has possibly assumed his theoretical knowledge would compensate for his lack of managerial experience at this level.

Looking at the number of times the formation changed last night with players playing out of position I wonder if the players are clear about exactly what they are expected to do.

If this is on their minds then it's bound to stop them playing their natural game.

The result last night was a very ordinary but hard-working Salisbury side, with a simple game plan outplayed us in every department and as has been mentioned elsewhere, but for a brave display by Martin Davies, would have scored more.

In order to grind out enough points to survive we need to get back to basics, play a formation that the players are comfortable with and pick players in their regular positions.

Hopefully David Batch will lean heavily on the experience of Kevin Wilkin and Andy Kirkup who have surely been around long enough to know what we need to do to try and get out of trouble.
