Next Season

Lets hope we have kept something back for an influx of league players for next season. Our league is likely to be a completely different competition next term with those clubs with spare capacity benefiting from higher grade players. The settled sides might start off well but the shrewdest dealers will be thereabouts. There is no hurry to improve our initial offers to existing players as it is going to be a buyers market with not a lot splashed around in transfer fees and only exceptional academy players will break through.

where are the league coming from???the only way we will get decent ex league players is if local teams went under & wot ever u think of cufc etc i dont think this will happen,we done well really ,kettering went up ,we doubled them, tamworth, we drew with twice, crawley we were unlucky against, all we have to do is win some of the drawn games and we will do all right!!if we get the support we got towards the end i think this will also make a differance !!hopfully i think we will be just above mid table!! RESPONSES PLEASE

struggle

May 4 2002, 7:20 PM

I think we will struggle like we have for years. What difference to one summer going to make.

Great move, we have just signed the players that nearly relegated us this season. I am sur they will be better players in eight weeks!

My prediction is bottom 6 again, staying up a success. Many people I have discussed this with agree. Many of our players have seen better days elsewhere or are not DMP standard.

Thats my thoughts.

Tight league

May 4 2002, 8:42 PM

Here we go, the moaners are back. Lets not forget that City finished the season just nine points off sixth place. With a shred of luck in some of the games we could easily have got another 9 points and finished comfortably in the top 10.

And ANYONE who thinks its a bad idea to sign up Wilde, Nightingale and Holden, really needs to take their head out of their arse before venturing up Milton Road again

Those are MY thoughts!

Why don't you take your head from up your arse and realise that people do have a right to free speach, we don't have to agree with what people think or say, but it would be nice to give the team a chance and get everyone behind the team and club, I mean lets for once see if we can get through to the new season without a summer of discontent.

Give Batch a chance

May 5 2002, 2:56 PM

Lets wait and see who Batchy has got lined up for next season before we start making predictions. Clearly without improvements you would expect the current squad, if he sticks with a settled team, would finish around mid-table. If he is forced to blood academy players in the DMP then league results will suffer as they did this season. The ONLY time the young ones should play first team is if we are safe unless we discover a player with outstanding ability, superior to that what is on offer in the first team. Kettering and Tamworth took no such risks with their results and played their first eleven from start to finish.

you said about kettering and tamworth,we did not lose against them,so it shows we can do alright,we let ourselves down against the poorer sides eg salisbury at home,,we must be positive..we can and will do well......

what???

May 5 2002, 10:17 PM

The 'Academy blood' that played towards the end of the seaon did very well. Helped us in difficult games. Yes it was a gamble but it seemed to pay off. The bringing back of steve holden, also a success. Personally I think two or three fresh faces would be valuable, and the more experienced players would help them, as would possibly more hungry payers, as in youth help the more experienced players.

Nonsense

Skelly has played well - especialy in our last two home matches. As for Beall, I agree that he hasn't been too impressive, but it can't help when the fans start getting on your back. To me, he looks like a good player who hasn't quite adjusted to DML football - he seems to expect to be allowed more time on the ball. If he can adapt to this, he will do well next season.
