| So desparate. Really desparate. Scrapeing the barrel. The news hitting the pan from C.U.F.C. would not normally be news worthy, but such is their financial state every penny is headline news. They arn't even auctioning the silverwear its stuff you would find at a car boot sale. Is this what Mr Harwood meant by persuing other options if City don't join them within the "time critical" period? |

looking after and seeking every penny, what's wrong with that? If thats what it takes to survive then great.
Its a bit rich coming from a club where revenue comes in from carboot sales and from getting as many kids to each game as possible so that their parents pay through the turnstiles. Note I am not knocking these things either, the mocking is coming from your end. |

...we had a U's fan by the name of Will J on here taking the piss out of us on this very subject, so is it any surprise that Unied get some back?
In any case you are as wrong as he was suggesting that we survive on car boot sales. Yes, we do have a car boot sale (because we have a big car park of our own on which to stage one) but that brings in a tiny amount of income compared to the renting of parking spaces to the Westbrook Centre, which is our major source of income.
Still, when we get our new ground we will have many avenues of income open to us with the facilities that will provide.
I notice you were told to get off the United messageboard recently for moaning, is that why you spend so much time on here plugging your main footballing interest, Cambridge United? |

Thats right, when we get our new ground, revenue will come from many different souces such as concerts, night clubs, renting out pitches not just for football, function rooms, bars etc etc. and you think we should be paying for your extra tier on the north stand. We will be generating real income, not pocket money. We will have money to spend whereas you have spent what you ain't got! Never mind, there will still be some football for you to watch UP THE CITY. |

1. Christ, there's nothing like rampant optimism. When is the new City ground going to open? 2006? 2010? Or never? Where's it going to be? Bishops Stortford? Royston?
2. Hey, you're right, some idiot did have a pop at me the other day on that board, over a completely non-football related matter. What were you doing looking on there though? I watch almost every City home game and have been to away games in the past, so it is hardly surprising that I come on this board. I also really DON'T CARE if City decide to groundshare with United or not, I just happen to think personally that it represents City's only chance to reach the Conference, if thats really what you want. |

.....your opinion doesn't count for anything!
There's nothing wrong with optimism (rampant or otherwise), after all there is plenty coming from United fans at the moment, after all, you all think the Newmarket Road end of your redevelopment is going to be up in a couple of years, ha! dream on! United haven't got a couple of years!! The grant money is spent, now the U's have to find the rest (£2,000,000 + to match it).......it will never happen. Despite the admirable efforts of CFU, the money they hand over is a drop in the ocean for a club losing £20,000 every week. Unless United have a major benefactor waiting in the wings the redevelopment will never be finished, and of course with every passing month that the work is not started the more expensive it gets. If you all want to meet Gary Harwood's 'window dressing' with blind optimism then good for you. |

Yes lets deal in Fact shall we. What United are bringing in (Revenue)is most unlikely to cover the day to day let alone provide the balance of money needed to finance a regenerated ground.
The Abbey Stadium redevelopment project is a dinosaur waiting to take a Cambridge football club into extinction. Will it be City, hopefully not, but it could be if we make hasty decisions and decide on a move to the Abbey in a last ditch attempt to get into the conference that will ultimately bring about our demise.
Football is being taught a hash lesson, City's philosophy will be better served if they build steadily from a sound foundation rather than to gamble as United have done and brought the Football club to its knees. Patience is the key to success.

You won't find much optimism among United fans Garbo, at least not about the new North Stand going up.
I am, however, optimistic that United will stay afloat and in the football league, as they have done for the last thirty years and more. |

I've read numerous optimistic posts on United's forum about the North end development, in fact the post below appeared on our forum from one of your boys:
Truth hurts!

............By the way our pitch is looking great as well as the new south stand. The new north end will look even MORE impressive when it`s up in a year or two`s time! Hardly a club that`s about to go bust.............
I have to agree with you about United not going bust though, I think they will survive the summer to start the new season, however if they do not find a massive amount of investment to complete the revenue earning part of your redevelopment i.e. the North stand, then United's future does have to be questioned....wouldn't you agree? | |
