Heard on Radio Cambs. 6 o'clock Sports Programme that last season's captain of Bristol Rovers has just signed. Apparently made a record number of appearances for Bristol Rovers during his time there since he joined them from Norwich City. Didn't catch his name though. Perhaps someone can enlighten me further. Adrian Smith might know.
His name is Che Wilson, and apparently he is originally from Girton. Went from Norwich City to Bristol Rovers and was, according to Radio Cambs, their captain last season. I did a bit of digging on the net and found out he`s a defender who can play midfield. Also it appears that Bath City offered him a one-year deal so obviously he turned that down.
Yes, Che Wilson has joined City. He was formerly captain at Bristol Rovers, but I believe he left when Ray Graydon took over as boss in April this year.
David Batch told me earlier that he is originally from Girton and he was once with Norwich City. He can play in centre midfield or in any defensive position, and we should see him in action tomorrow.
....I notice he once played a trial match for Cambridge United. That should make the CEN happy, they will now be able to call him "the former Cambridge United player", they seem to manage to find a tenuous link with that motley shower for every player we sign!!
Che (pronounced with a ch rather than a sh) was given the armband for one game towards the end of the season due to our regular captain being suspended. I can't remember now if it was only for that game or not .
In my view you've got an excellent signing. Best of luck for the season.
