I know that is only the first game but my view that todays performance was DIRE. but I really hope it was our only c--p game but I doubt it. Sorry City but that was a bad one
We are just carrying on where we left off pre-season. We had a really bad game against Peterborough, our manager said every team can have an off day (fair enough) but then we had another 'mare' at Histon, and now we follow it with todays sorry effort.
Have the City players been for a collective lobotomy? none of them had a clue today, all we had to offer was the big boot down the middle, we couldn't do anything right, summed up when Wilde burst into the box and took an air shot.
We get a great start, surrender the lead in 60 seconds with some of the most pathetic defending i have ever seen, the bloke had scored was the same player who netted 60 seconds after we did at Hednesford last season (he must love playing us) then more bad defending let them in for the second. We weren't helped by the lineman allowing their man to go on and score the third when even the Newport fans I was near though it was two yards offside, but to be honest I couldn't see us getting back from 2-1 down so when that went in it only served to comfirm the outcome.
Newport will not get an easier three points all season. They were a competent but not brilliant side and deserved their win, simply because they managed to pass the ball to their own men which was more than we could manage!!
The team don't really need me to tell them but THAT PERFORMANCE WILL NOT DO!!!! perfect chance to put things right on Tuesday night at Grantham.
Yes he did come on late in a very poor team performance, the few touches he had looked comfortable with the ball and could be a useful player but then a Sunday pub player would have looked good for us today. As someone said lets do it at Grantham and get back on track. COME ON YOU WHITES.......
I`m afraid that was a diabolical display, we were just lethargic in every department. It started so well too, but we fell into the same trap of conceeding a lead too quickly. How many times did tat happen last season? Nothing seems to have changed. Most players had an off day today, only Leon Gutzmore was really going for it.
The one big plus was the debut of Che Wilson, he looked quality when he came on in the second half, very assured , and looked like a player that has played at a higher level recently.
We have got to iprove on that wretched performance , otherwise we will be in for a long struggle.
Newport were impressive today, won`t be surprised if they are up there all season, very efficient with a high workrate, something we never looked like matching.
The only players coming out of yesterdays game were Leon Gutzmore, and the subs. Che Wilson looked class and Jack Wignell had some urgency about him which lifted the game a bit.
The passing was dreadful, midfield non existant and the defence in disarray.
Matt Clements looked good, but the service to the front men was inadequate.
Shane wardley had another suspect game, so Skelly gets my vote for now at left back, and Che has to start against Grantham to add some class and control to midfield.
Playing two wide men is a luxury for all but the very best teams in this league. To control the game we need to take charge of midfield so, if we cannot match our opponents in that department, this is where we need the extra man. As good as Wilde and Clements may be individually, we need to be playing the best team.
Secondly, we have this extremely bad habit of anticipating events INCORRECTLY. i.e. Groundshare Instead of re-signing the majority of last seasons players on new contracts could we not have foreseen the likelyhood of players of the calibre of Che Wilson becoming available. We may now find ourselves in the position of paying over the odds when better a cheaper players become available.
