Medical Mystery

For two weeks my stomach has been in a knot. Almost constant heartburn. I have tried to use rest, meditation and biofeedback to no avail. Today I broke down and bought a jar of Tums.

Instant relief !!!!

Imagine that.

And I haven't even opened the bottle...

Medical

My mother has told me that when I was a kid, whenever she took me to the doctor, most of what was ailing me would clear up once I got in his office.

I found the door into the waiting room (and I think it was the air itself) cured the kids of everything from flu to sprains. One doctor in treating plantar warts on the baby's knuckles...after they failed to respond, sighed and said... Maybe these are the kind you have to buy. So He wrote out the prescription, I put copper pennies on them and told the child that the pennies would absorb them... and they were gone.

past 2 weeks

There has been a substantial increase in people going to doctors with various complaints since the attacks in New York & Washinton.

Immediately upon hearing the news on the attacks.......I started having heartburn myself. I drank about 2 gallons of milk before it went away.

I think for the first time in my lifetime, the nation's citizens are feeling a kind of stress that comes from an uncertainty if we are going to be the next target.

One more thing: I'm glad the TV networks finally decided to stop running pictures of the crash into the WTC every few minutes. There's NO WAY seeing that image over and over could be anything BUT unhealthy.
I predict a lot of that post-traumatic stress syndrome to come out in months to come.

Mike: Does milk help your heartburn? For me, it's a lifesaver!

Milk is good for temporarily soothing heartburn, but it it actually bad for ulcers. Don't overdo it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "fair use" doctrine allows limited reproduction of copyrighted works for educational and research purposes. The relevant portion of the copyright statue provides that the "fair use" of a copyrighted work, including reproduction "for purposes such as criticism, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research" is not an infringement of copyright. The law lists the following factors as the ones to be evaluated in determining whether a particular use of a copyrighted work is a permitted "fair use," rather than an infringement of the copyright:
• the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
• the nature of the copyrighted work; • the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole, and
• the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
Although all of these factors will be considered, the last factor is the most important in determining whether a particular use is "fair." Where a work is available for purchase or license from the copyright owner in the medium or format desired, copying of all or a significant portion of the work in lieu of purchasing or licensing a sufficient number of "authorized" copies would be presumptively unfair. Where only a small portion of a work is to be copied and the work would not be used if purchase or licensing of a sufficient number of authorized copies were required, the intended use is more likely to be found to be fair.
