PORTUGAL: DOGS ARE A BOY’S BEST FRIEND

A five-year-old boy in Portugal already has a story to tell his grandchildren: how he was saved from the elements by three dogs which slept on top of him to keep him warm.
Their selfless act kept the boy alive during a stormy night in the mountains.

The boy, five-year-old Francisco Queiros, went out for a walk accompanied by his family’s three dogs. Towards the evening of Friday, he lost his way in the mountains where his family were spending a holiday and a storm set in.

For more than twelve hours, he lay curled up in a ball while the three dogs lay down on top of him, protecting him from the pelting rain and howling wind until his uncle found him, warm and dry, the next morning.

Francisco’s parents were fearing for the worse, as efforts by the local police force and family members proved to be fruitless. However, the dogs had a mission and they accomplished their mission. “Once a dog becomes part of the family, it knows its place and loyally guards the children”, said a spokesperson for the Portuguese league of animals. Two of the three dogs are Catalan Shepherd dogs, which were bred to look after flocks of sheep.

A police spokesperson stated that the rescue team were amazed that the boy had survived in extremely inhospitable terrain and weather conditions. What he was forgetting was that a dog is a boy’s best friend.

....and lets not forget that a boy can be a dogs best freind. My child when he's home plays with my old dog. Within two days, she walks better, plays, barks and although she is stiff with arthritis.. she's a new dog. Hmmm. Maybe if I played and fetched and barked I'd be a new critter to

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "fair use" doctrine allows limited reproduction of copyrighted works for educational and research purposes. The relevant portion of the copyright statue provides that the "fair use" of a copyrighted work, including reproduction "for purposes such as criticism, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research" is not an infringement of copyright. The law lists the following factors as the ones to be evaluated in determining whether a particular use of a copyrighted work is a permitted "fair use," rather than an infringement of the copyright:
• the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
• the nature of the copyrighted work; • the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole, and
• the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
Although all of these factors will be considered, the last factor is the most important in determining whether a particular use is "fair." Where a work is available for purchase or license from the copyright owner in the medium or format desired, copying of all or a significant portion of the work in lieu of purchasing or licensing a sufficient number of "authorized" copies would be presumptively unfair. Where only a small portion of a work is to be copied and the work would not be used if purchase or licensing of a sufficient number of authorized copies were required, the intended use is more likely to be found to be fair.
