and don't forget the idioting masses such as light up the fire place for a romantic evening. or to take the chill off the air and really permeat the air with gases and irritants and at least in So. CA it usually isn't even needed... All these new houses with fireplaces (that leak heat) burning pine from the grocery store (we have no surplus wood supplies) etc... I'm certain its also in part true in the north althoug there are some wonderful wood heaters that are efficient....and create minimal hazards.. Can;t help remembering that in Tahoe, the tv announce a very bad air quality and announced that persons lighting their fireplaces would be fined... Go get em, chimney smoke police...

Actually,

When it comes down to hard science (not half-substantiated theory) we really don't know whether the planet is warming or cooling. I would bet on slight warming with a recent cooling trend. I am not for pollution - I'm dead set against it. Right now the worst pollution on this planet comes from folks who believe that it's OK to lie if the outcome is "good."

Maybe I shouldn't really care anymore.

Indoor fires and fireplaces? I don't think any pre-columbian American Indian did any fire bigger than the small burner on a gas range. Who wants to spend 70+ hours a week gathering firewood?

I hate so-called "civilization" and all it stands for.

Dear God, please take us all back to Eden!

excellent point... but some Pre Columbus cities were very big... on both continents they burned wood to cook and heat... I can't see air pollution as anything new.. and CO2 is a natural byproduct of combustion

Global cooling

Ah that it would be that simple.
Oh that things were black or white.
Our country is headed down. Perhaps we should find out how far down?
Our earth has normal (for her) changes, and it appears that we are in for some.
Arguing whether it be cooling or warming will not change one thing.

Have been away a long time Mike missed you,..where are you?
perhaps you have left for EDEN???
Respectfully, Ginn

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "fair use" doctrine allows limited reproduction of copyrighted works for educational and research purposes. The relevant portion of the copyright statue provides that the "fair use" of a copyrighted work, including reproduction "for purposes such as criticism, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research" is not an infringement of copyright. The law lists the following factors as the ones to be evaluated in determining whether a particular use of a copyrighted work is a permitted "fair use," rather than an infringement of the copyright:
• the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
• the nature of the copyrighted work; • the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole, and
• the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
Although all of these factors will be considered, the last factor is the most important in determining whether a particular use is "fair." Where a work is available for purchase or license from the copyright owner in the medium or format desired, copying of all or a significant portion of the work in lieu of purchasing or licensing a sufficient number of "authorized" copies would be presumptively unfair. Where only a small portion of a work is to be copied and the work would not be used if purchase or licensing of a sufficient number of authorized copies were required, the intended use is more likely to be found to be fair.
