Tubal ligation and palpitations? You bet!!!!!!

by Sandy

Marion,I too suffer from heart palpitations, pvc's (premature ventricular contractions). I also have a benign murmur know as mitral valve prolapse. I had never experienced symptoms associated with this heart murmur until after my tubal ligation. I tried to get treatment for this condition and my internist, ignored me, telling me I just felt an occasional skipped beat and was overly anxious about this. Because of my persistent calling she reluctantly put me on a holter monitor (24 hr ekg) which showed in one 24hr period I had over 600 pvc's. Of course, her solution was beta blockers which I refuse to take as their side effects are worst than the pvcs. I beleive the reason behind this phenomenon is two fold. First, in response to decreasing levels of estrogen, your body increases cortisol which is the "stress hormone". This causes an overproduction of adrenaline so you body is in a constant state of "fight or flight". Secondly, estrogen is a vasodiolator, and when it suddenly decreases, it may reduce the normal rate of blood flow to and from the heart, which in turn accentuates any preexisting condition, even one which may otherwise be unnoticed. I an not a medical professional, this is not a medical opinion, but simply my observation. I have found that estrogen supplementation decreses my pvcs to less than an occassion skipped beat, I also avoid highly processed food, chinese food, caffiene and certain medicines like cold products, even ibuprofen causes symptoms for me. OF course, when the pvcs are bad enough, I slow down and lay around alot. But since I started estrogen therapy I have found great relief. I am not menopusal, I work with a doctor who believes pts exists and that estrogen,if too low should be supplemented. Of course I must have regular hormone profiles too make sure my progesterone is high enough, or I must also take progesterone. She aslo perscribes testosterone which works wonders but causes me to have pvcs so I do not take it.I would like to hear from others with this condition.

Take the Tubal Ligation I.Q. Test Are you outraged? Feel as though you and other women were not (are not) being informed? Think that a class action lawsuit should be filed on behalf of post tubal women because information was and still is being withheld by the ACOG! The CPTwomen invites all reading this forum to join the CPTwomen and communicate with us at the members' forum. All posting here and conversation here has been moved to the members' forum.

CPTwomen members have testified in front of the IL and CA Court, the IL Gov. Task Force, the Sunset Review Committee, (Senator Liz Figueroa), NOW, and more. What occurred has been made a matter of public record. The CPTwomen are making public the issues which millions of other women have faced in silence. Issues such as women are not informed at the time of their tubal ligation that there is a risk of hormonal imbalance occurring. For the CPTwomen to continue its mission to move this issue to the forefront of government, we must ask for a small contribution/subscription fee from all those who wish to communicate with us and participate at the Coalition's Bulletin Board
