Reply on IUD's

by

As mentioned in my post "If anyone is interested to Carrie" IUDs can be custom made, but you need to find a gyn who knows how to do it. Dr.Jason Gardosi is working very hard to have the butterfly IUD brought into the US via Planned Parenthood, but our bureaucracy is impeding the process. I'm sure if you lived in the UK you could visit his clinic and have him give you one.Dr's will typically tell you not to have one inserted prior to having children if that is in your plans because an IUD will modify the lining of the uterus and the uterine arteries(see medscape.com for articles on this) sometimes making it more difficult for certain women to conceive or carry a fetus, however, once past the age of 30 or so, and provided you are healthy and in a monogamous relationship, most MDs will feel better about giving you one since you are more "mature" so to speak and less likely to have complications and as far as size, well, it is true that some women experience heavier cramping and bleeding but if it is not too severe during the first 4 to 6 months of wear it can be minimized with painkillers such as vicodin or the IUD removed if you so desire. Also, those horror stories of perforation usually are due to faulty technique at the time of insertion and you might ask your DR to sonogram you as many will do that now. To find out more, check out the search engines and also "IUDs" at http://www.onelist.com there is a great group presided over by an MD who has had contact with Dr. Gardosi and for awhile she was letting us know of the progress of the butterfly IUD and it's distribution. Other good sites are http://www.birthcontrol.com and http://www.keeper.com (for menstrual cups if you wanted to try it!) I think you will find in corresponding to our european counterparts in places like Norway, Finland, and Germany, that the IUD is truly favored over other methods of bothersome contraceptives.

Take the Tubal Ligation I.Q. Test Are you outraged? Feel as though you and other women were not (are not) being informed? Think that a class action lawsuit should be filed on behalf of post tubal women because information was and still is being withheld by the ACOG! The CPTwomen invites all reading this forum to join the CPTwomen and communicate with us at the members' forum. All posting here and conversation here has been moved to the members' forum.

CPTwomen members have testified in front of the IL and CA Court, the IL Gov. Task Force, the Sunset Review Committee, (Senator Liz Figueroa), NOW, and more. What occurred has been made a matter of public record. The CPTwomen are making public the issues which millions of other women have faced in silence. Issues such as women are not informed at the time of their tubal ligation that there is a risk of hormonal imbalance occurring. For the CPTwomen to continue its mission to move this issue to the forefront of government, we must ask for a small contribution/subscription fee from all those who wish to communicate with us and participate at the Coalition's Bulletin Board
