Sue..Be Careful

by Sandy

Sue, I know you have had your share of problems, especially with this blood clot, and if I were in your shoes right now, I might also think menopause was the solution. BUT... it may only add to your problems and not nescessarily help. Given what we all know and expect from the majority of OB/gyns, I bet no one has fully informed you of what all to expect with menpause. I will give you a quick list to discuss with your DR. First off, with the decrease of estrogen comes weight gain, unless you plan on cutting calories by 25-30%. Many women develop insulin resistance and must avoid sugar and carbs for the rest of their lives. Secondly, lack of lubrication is only the beginning of your sexual problems. There will almost assuredly be a lack of libido, including inability to acheive orgasm. Intercourse can be painful and uncomfortable, and obviously, these issues can seriously affect your marriage. Without estrogen, your body does not produce the same amount of neurotransmitters it now does,i.e. dopamine, serotonin, meltonin. These chemical messengers keep us happy and alert during the day, and asleep at night. Nothing like being in a rotten mood on top of not having any sleep. Circulation and muscle tone decrease and long car trips will not be taken lightly anymore. Fatigue can be exceptional and can affect your ability to have the energy necessary to keep up with your family's schedule. The good thing about being so tired, is that you may not care that you have aged so much. And finally, with a drop in estrogen comes a loss of not only memory, but intellect and ability to perform mental tasks. In fact, dementia is common in women who experience premature menopause without estrogen replacement therapy. The reason I am telling you this is I WANT YOU TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION on electing to go into premature menopause because of your hormonal imbalance. There is likely a less radical means to help you control your symptoms and I hope you really research your options. I am concerned because the only really effective treatment for alot of the menopausal symptoms I mentioned is estrogen replacement and with your history of blood clots you may not be eligible for this treatment. Have you discussed with your Dr. if you will be able to take HRT? This is important to prevent heart disease and osteoporosis as well as the discomforts previously mentioned. Keep us posted. Good Luck to you. Please make resolution of your blood clot your priority but give serious thought to the problems of menopuase.

Take the Tubal Ligation I.Q. Test Are you outraged? Feel as though you and other women were not (are not) being informed? Think that a class action lawsuit should be filed on behalf of post tubal women because information was and still is being withheld by the ACOG! The CPTwomen invites all reading this forum to join the CPTwomen and communicate with us at the members' forum. All posting here and conversation here has been moved to the members' forum.

CPTwomen members have testified in front of the IL and CA Court, the IL Gov. Task Force, the Sunset Review Committee, (Senator Liz Figueroa), NOW, and more. What occurred has been made a matter of public record. The CPTwomen are making public the issues which millions of other women have faced in silence. Issues such as women are not informed at the time of their tubal ligation that there is a risk of hormonal imbalance occurring. For the CPTwomen to continue its mission to move this issue to the forefront of government, we must ask for a small contribution/subscription fee from all those who wish to communicate with us and participate at the Coalition's Bulletin Board
