Re:Please help

Please give more information - how old are you? When was your TL? What types of symptoms are you experiencing?

Idealy we'd like to see your doctor order ALL the testing listed. It's been our experience that most doctors don't order the complete testing (the testing is incomplete) or improper testing is ordered (tests that don't show ovarian function and/or tests that don't measure hormone levels).

To look at just one or two levels doesn't show the entire picture. (it's like looking at just one or two pieces of a 50 piece puzzle).

FSH,LH, and testosterone are all good to check.
TSH will check for your Thyriod function - that's good to check too.

Regardless of what the above tests come back as we still suggest at the minium that the tests with the (*) next to them.

*Estrogen or Estradiol - test (E2)
*Progesterone (serum)
*SHBG-Sex hormone-binding globulin
*Testosterone
FSH
LH luteinizing hormone
*Total Cholesterol. (HDL, LDL, and VLDL)
inhibin-a and inhibin-b
DHEA-sulfate dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate
Cortisol level
Prolactin (PRL)
Insulin
TSH - thyrotropin; thyroid stimulating hormone
Iron levels

It's interesting that that he didn't order any other tests. The only test that was ordered from the (*) list is the testosterone. Did you ask him why? What was his reasons for not ordering any of the other testing? Did you fax your request? It's not too late to do so. Fax him and tell him you want the rest of the tests ordered.

If your thyriod comes back high or low is the doctor going to say all your problems are because of that? If it comes back normal is he going to say that no more testing is necessary?

If the FSH/LH comes back high he might tell you that the tests are not accurate, or that they were done at the wrong time of the month, etc... and that no more tests are necessary.

The FSH and LH can tell you if you are in menopause.

The other tests with the (*) will tell you if you are experiencing a hormonal imbalance.

The national hormone testing program was put in place so that all women could get their levels checked. If he doesn't order the testing for you consider ordering it here. When you get the results you can take them back to your physican.

Take the Tubal Ligation I.Q. Test Are you outraged? Feel as though you and other women were not (are not) being informed? Think that a class action lawsuit should be filed on behalf of post tubal women because information was and still is being withheld by the ACOG! The CPTwomen invites all reading this forum to join the CPTwomen and communicate with us at the members' forum. All posting here and conversation here has been moved to the members' forum.

CPTwomen members have testified in front of the IL and CA Court, the IL Gov. Task Force, the Sunset Review Committee, (Senator Liz Figueroa), NOW, and more. What occurred has been made a matter of public record. The CPTwomen are making public the issues which millions of other women have faced in silence. Issues such as women are not informed at the time of their tubal ligation that there is a risk of hormonal imbalance occurring. For the CPTwomen to continue its mission to move this issue to the forefront of government, we must ask for a small contribution/subscription fee from all those who wish to communicate with us and participate at the Coalition's Bulletin Board
