A step back in time

by Sandy

I too always think, if only I could go back in time and do things differently. I do not think you are necessarily doomed to a life time of depression and hormonal imbalance. There are also women who report nothing has change for them and that they are very happy with their TL. But, you should be aware that these things can happen and if they do, you can look to your TL as a possible source. You are like so many of us, no information at all before the surgery, because doctors refuse to acknowledge the problems associated with this surgery. Remember, this is one surgery which is usually paid for 100% by insurace. There is a high index of motivation to perpetuate this surgery as it provides guaranteed income for the doctors who perform tubal ligation. Funny, in a third world country, like the Phillipines, they have advised women and their doctors that certain tubal ligation procedures can result in dramatic hormonal imbalances, and should therefore be avoided. BUT here in the most technologically advance society,we continue to sacrifice women who no longer desire children. I beleive a lot of doctors realize that a TL might cause an early menopause, they just don't realizxe how devestating it is to be a young woman one day and an old one the next.Part of this is the youth oriented culture of the US. Women only have value as long as they are sexy and ready for sex. If you no longer desire children, might as well take you off the market. I know this sounds a bit cynical, but I truely believe it is an unspoken , or uncounscious truth among male medical practitioners who perform most TLs. Cheer up though, you now have the most powerful tool of all, KNOWLEDGE!!!!!!!perhaps you were not enlightend before the surgery, but you certainly are now. Should your symptoms not resolve, there are steps to take to help determine the nature of you symptoms. A complete blood hormone profile is recommended, and the CPT has its own kits, just follow the link for testing. You can alos demand your own docotr do these tests. Good luck and good health to you. Keep us posted.

Take the Tubal Ligation I.Q. Test Are you outraged? Feel as though you and other women were not (are not) being informed? Think that a class action lawsuit should be filed on behalf of post tubal women because information was and still is being withheld by the ACOG! The CPTwomen invites all reading this forum to join the CPTwomen and communicate with us at the members' forum. All posting here and conversation here has been moved to the members' forum.

CPTwomen members have testified in front of the IL and CA Court, the IL Gov. Task Force, the Sunset Review Committee, (Senator Liz Figueroa), NOW, and more. What occurred has been made a matter of public record. The CPTwomen are making public the issues which millions of other women have faced in silence. Issues such as women are not informed at the time of their tubal ligation that there is a risk of hormonal imbalance occurring. For the CPTwomen to continue its mission to move this issue to the forefront of government, we must ask for a small contribution/subscription fee from all those who wish to communicate with us and participate at the Coalition's Bulletin Board
