for Michele

by Nancy

Hi Michele. My story is titled "Given 4 meds for symptoms" I have had many health problems in my life and I had the tubal because pregancy could be very dangerous and taxing on my heart. I had never heard of TLS before and my Mom and other friends who have had a TL do not seem to have any problems from their procedure. It is estimated that 1/3 of women who have a TL develop this syndrome, but it may be a lot higher. Sometimes I can't believe, that with all I've been through as a cancer survivor, that I have been plagued with this too. My point is that it is a big gamble on whether or not you will have side effects from a TL. Since you already have children, I thought you should know that this syndrome greatly effects your patience, mood and overall health; and therefore your ability to be the Mom you really want to be. Before the TL I had the patience of a saint! I worked with Autistic and profoundly retarded children and collegues were amazed at how calm and patient I was with them.
I feel I am a great Mom to my boys, but I have had to conciously work on how to deal with my moods and lack of patience.
As far as other birth control methods go, I know they can be expensive when not covered by insurance. After my first child my husband and I relied on condoms, but they are not fool proof. As a result we had twins! Which of course is a wonderful blessing, but was not planned!
I hope whatever you decide, things work out for the best.

Take care
Nancy

Take the Tubal Ligation I.Q. Test Are you outraged? Feel as though you and other women were not (are not) being informed? Think that a class action lawsuit should be filed on behalf of post tubal women because information was and still is being withheld by the ACOG! The CPTwomen invites all reading this forum to join the CPTwomen and communicate with us at the members' forum. All posting here and conversation here has been moved to the members' forum.

CPTwomen members have testified in front of the IL and CA Court, the IL Gov. Task Force, the Sunset Review Committee, (Senator Liz Figueroa), NOW, and more. What occurred has been made a matter of public record. The CPTwomen are making public the issues which millions of other women have faced in silence. Issues such as women are not informed at the time of their tubal ligation that there is a risk of hormonal imbalance occurring. For the CPTwomen to continue its mission to move this issue to the forefront of government, we must ask for a small contribution/subscription fee from all those who wish to communicate with us and participate at the Coalition's Bulletin Board
