Tubal Ligation - Published articals

by

A recent article in the Journal of Women's Health and Gender-Based Medicine. shows a correlation between tubal ligation and menopause. We urge all who have not read this article to do so!

Journal of Women's Health & Gener-Based Medicine - June 2000 - Vol 9, No. 5
http://www.liebertpub.com/JWH/toc/9_05_2000.pdf

The article concluded that, " Our results show that there is a strong association between tubal ligation and (peri) menopauseal symptoms. The importance of these findings is lined to the health implications of an accelerated menopausal transition, which include increased susceptibility to chronic diseases of aging, cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease (CHD), reproductive system cancers, diabetes, and osteoporosis. (early) menopause may be associated with increase risk for mortality or a reduced life expectancy as well as reduced cognitive functioning…"

In this world of information, misinformation… it is not surprising that a study would quickly be published to support that actions of many, and to counter the findings of the most recent published study which could damage their reputation. It could best be called propaganda. The distribution and spreading of altered information and miss-information, which those who present it would like you to believe as truth. In high profile cases (such as Nestles shipping bogus baby formula to Africa) advertisement companies are hired to put together print, radio, and TV ads to lessen the anger and outrage of the public. Some PR (public relations) firms dedicated their services entirely to this art of advertising. It's called "crisis management".

Tubal Sterilization -- Safe and Effective

"The results are broadly reassuring for those who worry about menstrual changes after tubal sterilization..."

"Because occasional brief changes in menses are common and unimportant, the authors wisely chose to focus on persistent changes, good or bad, reported in annual interviews conducted over several years."

They disregarded women with menses changes? Reported annually by whom? The doctors? If the menses changes were disregarded then why the statement this information is reassuring for those who worry about menstrual changes?

"An important confounding variable has proved to be the use of oral contraceptives before sterilization."
(The author lays blame on PTS for having been on the pill before your tubal ligation)

"Giving women and their partners relevant information about risks, benefits, and alternatives is central to family planning. Such informed consent is most important for sterilization..."

We strongly agree with this statement. Considering that tubal ligation is an elective surgery and does carry the risk of altered ovarian function, and that ALL doctors are to have the patients best interests in mind concerning their health (short term and long term), and knowing that ALL women have civil, and medical rights to be informed of ALL known risks and that ALL side effects and risks are required to be disclosed, To NOT inform is fraud, medical battery, and against all medical and ethical standards!

The most startling quotes from this article are follows:
"... sterilization does not cause changes in ovarian function."
And
"...With the useful findings reported by Peterson et al., we can provide women with more reassurance about the long-term safety and acceptability of tubal sterilization."

For all practical matters, this pro-tubal study appears to have been composed by obgyn's to propagate the miss-information that tubal ligations are without side effects and do not cause hormonal changes.

The important words here is "hormonal and ovarian function"… because in truth the hormonal changes are what injure us the most.

The NEJM and the Massachusetts Medical Society, by publishing this article, gives the doctors who subscribe (support) the publication/Society the go-ahead to NOT inform women of the KNOWN risks.

This publication is owned by the Massachusetts Medical Society.

The CPTwomen would like to talk with post tubal women who were followed in this study or in any study relating to health after a tubal ligation. If you are post tubal and were involved in this or any other, study please contact us!

Take the Tubal Ligation I.Q. Test Are you outraged? Feel as though you and other women were not (are not) being informed? Think that a class action lawsuit should be filed on behalf of post tubal women because information was and still is being withheld by the ACOG! The CPTwomen invites all reading this forum to join the CPTwomen and communicate with us at the members' forum. All posting here and conversation here has been moved to the members' forum.

CPTwomen members have testified in front of the IL and CA Court, the IL Gov. Task Force, the Sunset Review Committee, (Senator Liz Figueroa), NOW, and more. What occurred has been made a matter of public record. The CPTwomen are making public the issues which millions of other women have faced in silence. Issues such as women are not informed at the time of their tubal ligation that there is a risk of hormonal imbalance occurring. For the CPTwomen to continue its mission to move this issue to the forefront of government, we must ask for a small contribution/subscription fee from all those who wish to communicate with us and participate at the Coalition's Bulletin Board
