And yes, some people are complaining about "unecessary" changes. But Tolkien wrote a book, and not a movie script. Making changes is a prerogative of the director, and I'm fine with that as long as they make sense in the film.
Harry Potter actually got some complaints that it was too much like the book.
And one thing about Jurassic Park that really annoyed me was that the plot changes they put in ended up making the parts of the book they didn't change look like huge plot holes.
