On paper, the Sharks should be the better matchup for the Ducks. They're both huge teams, with imposing, plus-size superstars. They'd make for a vicious series, imho.
Meanwhile, if the Wings advance to play the Ducks, they'll be looking to quiet things down, after they establish themselves physically. If you watched any of the Wings-Sharks series, that's what Detroit's strategy seems to have been, to come out banging in the first couple of games, and then settle back into a controlled, puck-possession game, that negates the size and speed advantages.
I heard some the guys on Versus talking about who "deserves to win" this series, which is a meaningless concept, because nobody "deserves" anything but what shows up in the final score. Or, nobody cares, which amounts to the same.
That said, the Wings deserve to win. They've been the better team, in most periods of this series. That could change 180 degrees tonight, though. Back when we used to have to claw our way past the Blues, Avs and Stars, a game like this one would be likely to end in a rout by the home team. We'll find out if the Sharks are serious contenders, right now.
