You'll be surprised at who's on top...

.....Number 3 is one of those numbers where people are going to struggle to find a well-known list for the top ten. Not on the list, but well known as the coach of the Broad Street Bullies, Fred Shero wore number 3 with the New York Rangers in the 1940s. Here's your list of Top Ten to wear number 3...D'

10. Ivan 'Ching' Johnson (Rangers)
9. Al Arbour (Maple Leafs)
8. Emile Bouchard (Habs)
7. James Patrick (Rangers)
6. Lionel Conacher (Montreal Maroons)
5. J.C. Tremblay (Habs)
4. Harry Howell (Rangers)
3. Pierre Pilote (Black Hawks)
2. Marcel Pronovost (Red Wings)
1. Scott Stevens (Capitals)

PS: On Scott Stevens, most remember Stevens as wearing number 4 with the Devils, but prior to donning #4, Stevens wore number 3 for nine seasons with the Washington Capitals, and with the Kitchener Rangers in Junior Hockey. Stevens wanted to wear number 3 when he went to the St. Louis Blues, but it was taken out of circulation to honour Bob Gassoff, who died of a motorcycle accident. For his one season with the Blues, Stevens actually wore number 2. When the Blues signed Brendan Shanahan, Stevens was given as compensation to the Devils, where he donned number 4.
