His injury history makes a $5M/year investment a little scary, but he'll get it somewhere.
Let's look at his points per game since 2006.
2005-06= 0.95 (and he scored many big goals late in games to get the Oilers in the playoffs, and we all know the backbreaker he scored in the last minute of Game 6 against Detroit
So, six straight years in the range of 0.83 to 1.00 when he played on the 1st line. If only he could have stayed healthy.
After 2 shoulder surgeries, he opened 2011-12 with 11 points in 25 games. Ouch.
After that, he has scored 2 goals and 13 assists (-8) in 21 games. Not bad for a 2nd liner; about a 60-point pace. The team has went 7-11-3 in that span.
On a team like Nashville where he'd be on the top power play unit and top scoring line making Martin Erat's and Sergei Kostitsyn's look good, he'd be back in the 70-point pace.
If he resigns with my 4th favorite team (behind the Oilers - ugh, Sens, Sabres) this summer, I will be one of the first fans buying an #83 Preds jersey.
