I still can't believe he walked away, when he clearly was still near the top of his game. He made it look so easy most of the time. I know he gave his all for 20 years, and deserves to rest on his laurels, but I also know he had at least two more very good years left in him.
It appears there was some pressure from the family in Sweden, where both Nick and his wife's parents are getting old, and the rest of their extended family still lives. I know he's not hurting for money. I wish him all the best, but I am not looking forward to his absence from our blueline.
With Holmstrom expected to retire shortly, this is the end of the dynastic team that emerged in the mid-90's, finally breaking through to the Cup in '97. What a great run!
