My kids have had great fun with these outdoor ideas which may take alittle advanced setup but all worth it:
*Water balloon relays- loading and holding as many water balloons under your arms without dropping as you speed down the course and back. Then hand over to the next player in line. The one with the most balloons gains extra points even if the other beats thm back to the finish line.
*water balloon fight
*We Love to make large game boards on the driveway with chalk matching family gameboards such as Life, Uncle Wiggly, Candyland, etc. Kis become the actual game pieces. Kids want to play over and over again.
*Scavenger hunts: divide kids up into teams, provide them with identical lists of household items and give them a set time to return with a bag. Younger kids will need adult supervision.
*Get large refrigerator boxes and make cities or neighborhoods. Have the kids paint boxes.
*Treasure hunts in the backyard. Make up clues to find the ultimat treasure box filled with goodie bags. Ideas for clues could include a bag of filled balloons to pop and one has a clue to the next clue, dig in the sandbox to hide another clue, Look in the car over viser for another clue, hide a plastic eggs with clues/money/candy, find a bottle floating in the pool with a map inside. Make up rhymes or funny ways to get to the clue by solving word puzzles, Looking up a Bible verse for a clue or missing word to describe where to go, make the pinata part of the treasure hunt with a clue there. Many fun and time consuming ideas here.
