2nd Birthday-Butterfly Theme need more ideas!June 10 2003 at 12:44 AM No score for this post | ChrystyVOG (Login ChrystyVOG) from IP address 202.156.2.59 |
| I am planning my daughter's second birthday party and the theme is butterflies. There will be a range of ages there from 6 to newborn w/ the majority of the kids around 2-4.
I made the invitations on the computer but how do I address it so that they know the entire family is invited?
I am or going to have a butterfly cake made. The food is being catered so I can't get creative there.
I may buy butterfly napkins, plates, etc. but I may not as the servings stuff is also being supplied but it is all white. They also supply ballons.
I was going to have butterfly shape cookies for the kids to decorate and eat. I may make butterfly wings for the kids to decorate and take home. SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE SOME EASY WINGS??? I will make antannes to give when the kids get there. There will be a bouncy castle and a face painter. DO I NEED ANY OTHER ACTIVITIES/GAMES? The 2.5 year olds and less probably wouldn't participate. WHAT BUTTERFLY GAMES COULD I HAVE FOR THE OLDER KIDS? The party is from 4-6 so I may have enough for them to do...what do you think?
There could be up to 20 kids there and double that for the adults!! I am not having this at my house...we are renting a room at the Club we belong to and they are doing all the food, beverages, etc. So I do have some time to get creative w/ loot bags, etc. ALSO, WOULD YOU SERVE WINE/BEER? Unsure on this still...it is only for 2 hours and how much can they drink but I also don't want to go broke on my DD's 2nd birthday bash.
ALSO, I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE BUTTERFLIES TO HANG FROM THE CEILINGS, HOW TO EASILY?
I think the loot bags should be relatively easy once I get the age of the kids that will attend.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. |

The best way to make butterfly wings easily is to get stiff twueil(netting), cut into a rectangle shape and then tie in the middle with string. You can also put a much smaller square piece of shiney, glittered fabric on top before you tie in the middle. You can decorate these wings with glitter paint and sequence etc. You will need thin elastic for the arms.
Butterflys are most easily made by folding the stiff paper or card in half and then cutting the two sides at the same time. Hollograph paper is the most affective. You can also make butterfly patty cakes by cutting off the top of the cake halving it and then with icing sugar they become a butterfly on top sticking up. Using a butterfly cookie cutter you can cut the sandwiches in the shape of butterflies. Make a caterpillar shaped dip with crackers. You could also make fairy bread (using hundreds and thousands and cut the bread into a butterfly shape!
Butterfly stickers are easy to find in the novelty shops and these would be great to cut up and add to the party bags. Young children love stickers. You could do butterfly painting if you have a spare table. Using A4 paper and paint, fold the paper and reopen. The children blob paint on one side then fold the paper over and when you open the paper you have a butterfly. You could decorate the party with the long balloons made into butterfly shapes. Use two long balloons twisting them to make the wings and you could use cardboard for the body and pipe cleaners for the antanne. Don't worry about games if you have a bouncing castle and face painting especially if you have swings and play equipment too. If you wanted to you could take along a player and play butterfly, cocoon, caterpillar freeze - when the music stops they either put their hands up in the airs for the butterfly or curl up for the cocoon or lie down on the ground for the caterpillar depending on what you call out. If they get it wrong or move in the position they are out. You could also play butterfly follow the leader. Another great idea is using instrumental music have the children be a caterpillar who spins a cocoon, stays there for a minute then turns into a beautiful butterfly and flies around to the music. Anyway, I hope those ideas may help - enjoy the little ones party! |

You might want to check out the Domino Sugar website at www.dominosugar.com for their party ideas---they have a "bug" party, and several other themes.
If you are having a moon bounce and a face painter, you don't need anything else. The two-year-olds will be thrilled. Just watch out for big kids jumping at the same time as the little ones. Sounds like a wonderful party! | |
