If you need themes here are a few...
American Pride-have red, white and blue everything, give out little flags, Have everyone dress in america colors and vote who is the best dressed.
Glow party-get glow sticks and black lights and have everyone wear white
hawaiian luau-make palm trees and get lays and make grass skirts. Vote who is the best dressed for it. Make non-achloic drinks
Hope these ideas help a little

You could do a make-your-own carnival at your house. Have activities such as bowling (use empty soda bottles as pins and a tennis ball as a bowling ball), and a real-life game board (the room is the board; you and your friends are the game pieces). Both boys and girls will like a party like this. Have prizes handy and make sure that the people who don't win prizes get something anyway. I'm going to be 12 in two weeks and I did this for my 8th birthday party. It was a blast, and I may do it again for my 12th bday.
P.S. - If you want to, serve snow cones and big pretzels for snacks!
