The children(mostly cousins) always want to help pass the birthday girl her presents and then a fight always breaks out and ends up with a child crying. Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the party guests occupied while the birthday child opens her presents. Need some creative ideas on a game we can play to see which present gets open by who and when. The kids are ages 1-8. Please help. Thanks

watch one of their favorite tv shows or movies so they wont get bored...or open presents up in your backyard so they can play and not wine of boredness if they want to play

Sometimes opening the presents can be a bit boring for the kiddie guests...they do get ansie, but this keeps their attention while all of the presents are being opened...
I began this idea that "gives attention" to the present giver at my daughters 6th birthday party last year:

I blew up balloons and on some festive paper strips, pre-printed "wishes" that my daughter wanted to wish for the kids at her birthday party.
I rolled them up and stuck them inside of each balloon. (Wishes must be all different!)
ie: "I wish that you could get black puppy named GEORGE", "I wish that your next teacher will let you eat candy at recess." "I wish Goofy and Micky could go swimming with you all day at the pool." Or whatever!

When a child handed Christine a gift, they then picked a big blown-up balloon, and with a sharp wooden stick that they are handed, they POP and scrambled for their piece of paper "wish" from the balloon. Kids love to pop these balloons!
You can even buy the larger balloons and place small pieces of candies inside of them as well....
If a child is uncomfortable popping the balloon, you can offer to have him or her simply pick out of a basket their "treat".

Well a good idea instead of having them crying or not letting them see the presents by watching tv is letting each kid pass the birthday girl/boy there present. If its cousins and there is more than one in the family i would let the youngest or most intersted pass the present.
