these are things i found from different posts....

I had a hawaiian party and we went to a really big open space and it was a small party but it was funny because only one guy showed up so we were all throwing water balloons at him. We also had squirt guns. U have to make everyone wear all the stuff like the skirt and all.
we did a scavenger hunt around the neighborhood and the b-day girl had to be dressed up with all of this hawiian and random stuff first team back withall of the stuff won. have your food on kabobs. have smoothies or slushies.
At the end of the evening guests went home with party souvenirs. My favorite is a blend of instant sweet tea, orange flavored Tang and cinnamon. Once mixed, you pour a considerable amount into a little silk satchel and tie it shut with a colorful ribbon.
We made homemade lime & guava punch it was a beautiful green color

Make a disco ball with tin foil wrapped around a balloon or a beach ball.
Make choclate covered pretzels! Strawberries! Blueberries! Make a cake with all your friends! Make cookies and brownies and eat the batter!!! Play football, baseball basketball!! Have a tent set up in the backyard for girls that aren't active. Make teams for sports and have a cheerleading squad for people who don't want to play!
Stay up late and have sparklers! Buy a lot cause everyone loves them!!!
Have the teams hold their water balloons, the winning team lines up side ways to the other team. They each hold the water balloon that they still have from winning the first game, when the word "GO!" Is heard, have them toss the balloon back and forth to eachother. Whoever pops it or drops it first, looses and the other person gets the prize from inside
For decorations u should have pink white orange green streamers. Colors that remind u of tropical climates. U can make flowers out of tissue paper and put them all around! Decorate the tables to make them look hawiann too.
teaching everyone how to do the hula dance and u can do limbo. U also should have a big bowl of hawiaan punch on a table! U should have like chicken and pineapple on a stick that sounds very exotic. u should also have a water balloon toss contest everytime u catch it the two partners have to take a step backward the last partners standing get a prize! If u feel brave enough u can order up some hawian pizza haha. u can also play exotic food fear factor game. It is more fun that it sounds trust me!

You guys could play this really cool game i played in 8th grade at a dance... The guys get down on your hands and knees and all face forward girls stand behind a guy... (alot like musical chairs only grown up and fun!) Now you play some music and girls walk around the guys in a circle when the music stops... the girl has to get on a guys back. If a guy falls on his stomach hes out (you said u had more guys than girls) And if the guys are still on there hands and knees a person picks someone whos out who has no one on his back. You continue this untill theres one pair of guy and girl. Then they win and you could do something with that... we had them kiss but i dont know if thats the best ending for your party!
I made a volcano-shaped cake with red candy lava spurting out
an idea would be a beach party get some sand and spread it like on a padio or something (not on grass because you'll never be able to clean it up) then put like palm trees and coconuts around. have laies (i can never spell that word) to give out to each person and make sure there is enough food and enough music and enough chairs incase people get tired
ok....if u wanna do something that's mature but is still a lot of fun u cna try this: tell your guests to wear clothes they don't mind getting messy and wet. All u need is a plastic sheet about hmmm maybe 20 ft long, some gummy worms, marshmallows, chocolate syrup, whipcream, cheese puffs, baby oil, water(from a hose preferably) and if u have a hill great!

one game u play on the tarp(plastic sheet) is this:

first wet the tarp and spread gummy worms up and down the tarp then divide into as many teams as u want and line up at on end of the tarp. 2 ppl from each team go at a time. one person holds the other person's feet while they walk on their hands down the tarp. the point of the game is to get 30 worms total by having each person walking on their hands to pick up 6 worms in their mouth!
another game that is quite fun is using marshmallows and chocolate syrup. have 2 paper cups for each
first have the guests and yourself get into parters/pairs.
have one person lie down (face up) and the other person standing rite above them so they can drop the marshmallows dipped in chocolate syrup into their partners mouth. do not eat the marshmallows because at the end of 3 minutes count up how many marshmallows were dropped into the mouth and whoever has the most wins. (you can just spit the marshmallows out beside you on the tarp so u can catch more)

here's a game that is sorta messy. use the whipcream and cheese puffs to play.
have partners again and have one person spread whipcream over there face. then line up on opposite sides of the tarp and when someone says go start throwing cheesepuffs onto your partners face (hand cheesepuffs out in paper cups) whoever gets the most stuck on there face. that pair wins

one of my favorite games is when u use water, the hill, and baby oil. line the tarp up on a hill and spray water and baby oil all over it. divide up into 2 or more teams to play. have the 1st team try and get all their team mates up on the top of the hill by running up the tarp. u cannot use the sides to hold onto either. time each team to see how long it takes them to get all their team mates on top of the hill. whoevers team has the shortest time wins
Another game in case you're not that girly is ambush. you split up into 2 teams. Each team gets a different color cloth and tucks it lightly into their pocket, so most is hanging out. The first team to hide must leave clues to where they are hiding, like a pen or wrapper. Once the first team has laid all their clues and is well hidden, one person runs back inside (outside game) and tells the other team that their ready. The team gives that person enough time to run back to the spot. The second team must find the other team. Once found the team hiding yells ambush and tries to grab the other team members' cloth (flag). To make it more interesting, you can give each team a bucket of waterballoons to throw at each other while tring to grab their flag
a tiki bar would be cool! take a regular rectangle table, and on the edges put a hawiian table cloth on it so it looks like a solid wall for a bar. then make a sign to put above where u sit.that says something like get your fresh drinks here at the tiki bar.the kid is 13,but may want to act older and serve punch like a frozen cranberry punch mixed with 7-up.
If you buy a big leaf leis, you could cut each flower part off and put them over your straws and it will put in a tropical mood. Also, have the umbrella straws too, which you should put in each person’s goody box, so they will know they are only assigned to one per person.
Limbo contests, hula dance lessons/contests (or a hula hoop contest). Get a bubble machine or have lots of bubbles around and play Don Ho's "Tiny Bubbles". Make your own leis with string/yarn and beads and fake flowers.
A dance at your house with fancy invitations, Christmas lights and balloons for decorations, chocolates for favors which you have re-wrapped in a computer made label that says "In Celebration of the 14th birthday to Dawn - thanks for being part of her special day", dips and chips, sodas, nacho's, etc.

Make drink charms, get tropical stencils and string, and wallah!
Try a glow in the dark party. Find all of the coolest glow in the dark things--chalk, nail polish, necklaces, etc. Play flashlight tag and finish with a music and dancing under a black light.
14th birthday i wanted to do something that no one else has done so I had a Luau! Not just any old Laua i had the best one ever. I typed up invitations on the computer and used clip-art to decorate them. For decorations i ordered Laua signs that read common hawiaan phrases, flimingos to stick in the groud, garland, streamers, balloonns, etc. (all from oriental tradinhg co.)For food i went to Alohafriends.com to find recipes for a luau. we had sweet and sour shreeded pork ( if u want to go all out u can roast a pig)we also had tropical fruit like pineapple, mango, and other exotic fruits, fruit smoothies w/ little umbrellas in them. For the cakewe had a yellow batter cake w/ pineapple juice put in it to give it some tang. we decorated the cake with brown sugar on one edge to represent sand and blue icing on the other half to represent the ocean. we brought plastic palm trees to stick in the cake. When the guest arrived we gave each guest diffrent multi-colored lei's and grass skirts. we also ordered some tropical flowers to give to each guest to stick in their hair. we watched movies like Holiday in the sun and blue crush. Then we palyed truth or dare which didnt get out of hand. we also eat cake and made music videos ( a lot of hula dancing)!
DECORATIONS: The party was held outside so we set up 2 tables each bearing a bright tablecloth. As centre peices on each, we put a large painted, plastor shell filled with stickers and party poppers and pineapples with balloons filled with helium (the helium was left over from a party held by another family member, so we were lucky enough that we didn't have to hire any ourselves) tied to the spikes. We also tied some balloons from the chairs. Streamers were folded to create a chain and were hung up dropping from the roof and we wound some up the posts. We also bought 4 cheap bamboo stake lights from crazy clarks and arranged them out on the grass. Having coloured party lights also helped set the mood as my party was at night.
for dessert we made a huge fruit salad which was placed in the halves of a hollowed out watermelon lined with cruched ice.
OTHER STUFF: Everyone was asked to come wearing something hawaiian and via the internet, i found out what everyones name was in hawaiian and wrote this on bright orange label sitckers. And out the front of the house we put up thw word ALOHA, which we made out of fluro coloured cardboard. All in all, it was a complete success and I would recommend a luau for all ages! =D
As the guests arrived the girls were given one(1) lei, one (1) ankle lei, and a grass skirt. (I wore a special lei that worked like a crown)
For games we had water balloon volley ball(we were divided into 4 groups, we toss a water balloon back and forth with a beach towel) we had a limbo and a hula contest, and a watermelon relay(the melon was covered in Vaseline and we had to run through the water and back again with out dropping it)
we had a BBQ and drank daiquiris (I had bought plastic cups at a party store that resembled coconuts &/or pineapples) for decorations I bought some plastic flamingos at a thrift store, rope nets were on the walls with various fish and lobsters suck into it.
We bought a kiddie pool to put the drinks and such in so it would be kept cool and everyone would know where to get it and it wouldn’t take up room on the table. This party was the best one I've had in years! I really had fun and I hope you will too!
\*~A TEEN LUAU 14YR~\* MY CHOSEN THEME: I am going to be 14 this year and want my birthday to be just as special if not more than the last! Being a teenager it is hard to choose a suitable theme but browsing through this site at the new ideas and themes i have chosen the theme of a Hawaiin Luau. This theme i think will be very suitable as my birthday takes place in early august. INVITATIONS: For my invitations i do not want to spend so i thought the cheapest way would be to produce my invites on my computer. They will be simple with bright tropical colours decorated with clip-art. At the top it will read my friends name in Hawaiin (type in 'hawaiin names' into a search engine)then You have been invited to a Hawaiin Luau and below the normal instructions. The attire will be bright tropical colours with grass skirts and leis if they have them. They will also be asked to bring along with them their swim suits and towel as they may get wet! PLANNING: To avoid last minute rush to buy all your items needed for the party it is advised to buy your items over a period of time. Buy all the decorations about 2 weeks before, then the prizes and fillings for the goody bags about 1 week before , then the food 2 days before. You should also prepare any large dishes the night before also the decorations if your making any by hand. DECORATIONS: I am hosting my party at my house, unfortunately we dont have a pool so instead we have bought a large inflatable pool. At my guests arrival i will hand them each a lei. There will be 3 main tables; Food table, Tiki bar, and present/goody bag table. Each table will be decorated with a bright tropical coloured table cloth. Around the edges of the table there will be raffia skirting for a hut/tiki effect. The centerpeice for the food table will be a large pinapple hollowed out filled with different leaves and tropical flowers of all colours. This will be surrounded by candles. The pattio will be sprinkled with sand and all over the garden and pattio there will be clusters of tealights. Amongst the trees and bushes there will be hand-made tissue paper flowers again of different tropical colours. There will be a parrot pinata hanging from a branch, a limbo pole covered in streamers, and ALOHA sign hung up high. There will also be clusters of bright balloons everywhere supported by wieghts; an i dea is to gather large stones and cover them in tissue paper/coloured plastic tied up with raffia to make some attractive weights. All these decorations will be outside, inside i am decorating to be the sea. There will be tons of green and blue streamers hanging from the ceiling to create a lagoon effect. On the floor there will be loose balloons of the colours white and blue to represent bubbles and water. All ornaments and expensive things will be removed and put upstairs to prevent and accidents. There will be balloon garlands put in archways and doorways along with streamers. ACTIVITES: Hot Coconut, Dress game;in teams they choose one to be the hawaiin princess and have to make her a dress from tiolet roll, crepe paper and leaves, they will be given an amount of time in which they have to make a dress. The judge (an adult) must decide on the winning team the dress may be judged on originality, style, and how neat it is. Pass the flower like parce the parcel only the parcel is like a flower and when the music stops in blooms (a layer is taken off), hula hoop contest (who can keep it going for the longest), Treasure hunt relay (when you split into two teams they take it in turns to collect an item to do with a luau eg pinapples the team to collect all there pinapples wins. The limbo (water- with the hose and normal). Coconut stomp (when each person has a brown balloon (coconut) tied to their ankle with a piece of string, they have to avoid their coconut being stomped on (popped) at the same time as trying to pop everyone elsesthe last person with their balloon still intact wins). FOOD: This may include; cheese and pinapple sticks, alsorted fruit sticks, carrot and cucumber sticks, crisps with dips, all different kinds of candy, and many more finger foods. A beach scene cake, ice cream. And pizza (ham and pinapple always ahve plain pizza just incase) also various barbeque dishes. I will try and make it seem as buffet as possible to match my theme. PRIZES: Candy, Leis, Sarongs, Make-up, Hairstuff, Beach balls/inflatables. etc etc GOODY BAGS: These will consist of candy, stationery (smelly pens- in tropical scents), their leis, their prizes, thank-you notes (made on the computer). These goddies will be placed inside a coloured plastic paper tied up with curled ribbon and raffia. After all this careul planning i cannot wait for my party! I hope you have found my ideas useful and if you're planning a party Good Luck :)
I will be putting leis and lei bracelets all over the tables for people to put on...the pretty ones with the silk flowers. I'm going to also rent fake palm trees and maybe some parrots for decor and have grass skirts on the tables. for food I will be mostly serving appetizers such as bar-b-queued chicken and pineapple on skewers..since most of my friends won't eat that much anyway.
a good game you could play in the dark is called murderer everyone takes a piece of paper out of a hat and 1 gets the paper labeled murderer and 1 gets the paper labled detective. everyone wanders in the dark exept the detective closing thier eyes nearby and then the murderer gently pushes someone down and the innocent person who was pushed down waits 5 seconds and then screams. the lights are turnt back on and the dectective asks questions about who the murderer is and everyone must tell the truth but the murderer may lie as much as they want.
you could buy inexpensive picture frames and decorate them with sequins, faux jems, etc... and make sure you get great candid shots of all your guest with a instant camera then send them all home with their own frame and the picture of them having a blast at your party!
My daughter is turning 13 next month and I am having a party for boys and girls. We are renting out the recreation center which is only $50.00, I am having the party with another parent whose child is friends with mine. We are inviting their entire class a bonfire with hot dog roast, smore's beach volleyball, flashlight flag tag tied together with a partner at the feet and then dance and snacks. All together the party is costing about $100.00 each, but for 50 or 55 kids that's not bad. Good luck!
I've done this before and we played volleyball in the dark and it was really fun lol you could also do it during the day and make it an all day party and still do the bonfire, if its gonna be all girls you could do all day and then make it a sleepover too.....hope I helped :)
for like all my birthdays i have played this game called who what where when why. its really fun and its funny in the end
1. give a peice of paper to everyone.
2. have everyone fill it out ( who what where when why)
remember to leave about two or three lines in between
3. everyone fills out the first catogorie. who (write in a name)
4. fold over your answer and pass on to the next person.
5. do the next cat. and fold and pass it on til' all the
spots are filled.
REMEMBER: do not let anyone read theres until the very end.
6. when you do the last cat. keep it do not pass on.
7. 1 person unfold and read aloud to everyone do until all are read
if you do it rite they turn out really funny heres a copy of 1 that i saved from my collection:
who: Carley
what: kissed santa clause
where:in Michelle's but
when: when the fat lady sang
why: because she was told she needed birth control pills
having a Hawaiian luau/birthday party! I invited my whole grade to the party! If weather permits, it will be outside and I also have a big pool and huge deck for lounging! For activities we will have basketball, tireswing, swimming volleyball, dancing, and firweorks at the end! I know it soudns lame but my dad agreed to be teh D.J! Our food is all finger foods-hot dogs, chips,a fruit tray, and vegetable tray. Plus, my Mom is making a citrus punch and we will set Hawaiian Punch out in a cooler for people just in case there is not enough! For the ice we put fruit juice instead of water in them, and a variety of different, cut-up, tropical fruits! For dessert we are having fudge browines with sprinkles on them, and gourmet chocolates. Each person gets a silk lei as a party favor, and was asked to bring there swimsuit and wear anything Hawaiian! The only thing is I need some help with the decorations! I have hot pink, green, and yellow streamers; two totem pole signs for each stereo, a luau skirt for the table, Hawaiian flower petals, candles, and tiki torches!
hawiian themed.. we had fake palm trees made of paper on the poles in our cafiteria.. we all got 2 lais to wear.. and they had coconut cups w/ umbrella straws ans thing like that.. we all wore like hawiian themes clothes like the guys wore the hawiian button up shirts and we wore hawiian dresses w/ flowers and things.. i dont know if this will help but i hope so .. and have a great time! =)
But i will be turning 13 soon also and for my party im goin to have TONS of people go to shbooms ((a local club)) it may sound like a bad ideas for 13 year olds to be going to a club but it can be rented out for just him and his friends, he can send invitations around school to anyone who would like to go..its also a great way to meet friends. Its also VERY fun, my friends throw parties there all of the time! Hes gonna be a TEENAGER..and family parties are BORING!
well if there is a lake some place around you could like rent a pontoon boat or something like that. i loved that i did it for my 10th b-day. all of my friends had a great time. a thirteenth birthday IS really special.
*hose limbo-take a hose and use it as a limbo stick
Cheeto Head. You have 2 teams with at least 2 people. One person from each team is sitting in a chair at least five feet away. They have on shower caps, and shaving cream sprayed on their head. The other person is trying to throw cheetos (the puff kind) toward the person in the chairs head, and trying to make them stick. The person with the most cheetos on their head wins!
to invie the guys is your choice if the guys are used to hangin' out with girls then go ahead and invite them but if there not i'd advise you not to invite them.
OO definately have the guys..their the ones that make the party a blast! tell them to invite some friends and then the pardie will be JUMPIN'..definately play truth or dare, if you dont ull be thought of as a chicken
Luau parties are lots of fun! i had one last year. TO make it fun you could make decorations like paper chains and that sort of things. Also, party warehouse is completely stocked up with luau decor. I had my friends and I made non-alcoholic strawberry daquries and pina coladas. It was lots of fun! Having people dress up is cool and also hawaiian music would make it more hawaiian like. If you are going to give out favors, leis work really well. All different colors. Limbo (although it might sound dumb) is always fun for older kids to make fools out of themselves. Blow up beachballs and streamers make the place look great I hope this helped and respond if you need more ideas!
Decorate your buffet table and/or guest tables using a blue plastic table cloth then lay fishing net(s) over the table. Top with sand, shells, glass bowls with gold fish in them
Have fresh, sweet, delicious pineapples from Hawaii at your luau! Tip: Leaving the skin on cut the top off then cute each pineapple into quarters length wise. You can then cut the quarter into portions but don't cut it all the way through the skin. The skin will act as a serving bowl and each quarter can be put on a table. Those who want some can easily break off a single serving portion.
Create Pineapple Boats from fresh, sweet, delicious pineapples from Hawaii. Take a whole pineapple with the skin and top still on and cut it in half lengthwise. Scoop/cut out the pineapple meat leaving the skin and top. Then fill each pineapple half with the pineapple pieces and other fruits like sliced banana, apples slices, grapes, strawberries, etc.
MOCHIKO CHICKEN
4 lbs boneless chicken breasts or 5 lbs chicken thighs (if using chicken thighs debone and cut in half)
4 Tablespoons flour
4 Tablespoons cornstarch
4 Tablespoons sugar
5 Tablespoons shoyu (Asian soy sauce)
5 cloves of garlic, crushed and minced
8 Tablespoons Mochiko flour (can be found in the Asian food section in your local market)
4 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoon MSG (optional)
4 stalks green onion, finely chopped
4 eggs
4 Tablespoons oyster sauce (can be found in the Asian food section in your local market)
vegetable oil
Cut up chicken into serving size pieces and set aside. In a large container combine all ingredients except the chicken and mix well. Once the batter is mixed add the chicken and stir until all pieces are coated. Cover and let set in the batter overnight in the refrigerator. The following morning stir the batter and put it back in the refrigerator until you are ready to cook. Ten minutes prior to cooking take the container out of the refrigerator. Fill a wok or frying pan with enough oil to cover the chicken pieces and heat. Test hotness of oil by dropping some batter in it. If the oil is hot enough the batter will begin to cook on contact. If it does not wait until it gets hot. Deep fry the Mochiko batter chicken until golden brown. Let the cooked chicken drain on wire rack over some paper towels or newspaper then serve. Makes about 6 servings
FRESH FRUIT PLATE
Pineapple chunks
Papaya slices
Fresh pineapple and papaya help to aide digestion and are an excellent side dish. Other fresh fruit options you can also offer are fresh strawberries, grapes, watermelon, and bananas.
HAWAIIAN AMBROSIA
8 ounce can of crushed pineapple, drained
1 can lychee pitted and drained or 11 ounce can mandarin oranges drained
3 ½ cups cool whip
2 cups shredded coconut
2 cups mini marshmallows
½ cup milk
1 cup maraschino cherries
In a large bowl pineapple, lychee or mandarin oranges, whipped topping, coconut, marshmallows and milk. Chill 1 hour. Garnish with cherries before serving. Serves 12.
MACADAMIA NUT CREAM PIE
1 1/3 cups milk
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped macadamia nuts
Dash salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
5 teaspoons cornstarch
2 egg whites
1 9 inch baking pie shell
1 cup heavy cream, sweetened and whipped, or use a container of real whipped cream in a can
In a saucepan combine 1 cup of the milk, 1/4 cup of the sugar, 1/4 cup of the nuts, the salt and the vanilla; scald. Mix the remaining 1/3 cup milk with egg and cornstarch. Thoroughly stir some of hot mixture into egg mixture; return all to saucepan. Cook 5 more minutes, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens. Cool 1 hour. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form then fold carefully into cooled mixture. Pour into pie shell and chill. Before serving top with sweetened whipped cream or can of whipped cream and remaining 1/4 cup nuts. Makes 8 servings.

1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 slightly beaten egg yolk

1 64oz-can pineapple juice
1 can cream of coconut
2 2-Liters ginger ale
ice cubes
Optional: vodka
In a large punch bowl add the 3 cans of frozen fruit punch concentrate. Keep one of the empty frozen juice cans. Fill the can with water 6 times and add to punch bowl. Add pineapple juice, one bottle of ginger ale, and ice cubes then stir. Then add as much of the 2nd bottle of ginger ale as possible leaving at least 3 inches from the rim of the punch bowl and stir again. Pour in the can of cream of coconut on top. If you want the punch to be alcoholic add vodka. Will serve 40-70 people.
MAI TAI
There are a lot of variations on this basic recipe for a Hawaiian favorite. A word to the wise, don’t have one mai tai after another, with almost 4oz. of liquor and that fruity flavor you might be dancing a hula to the pounding in your head!
2 oz. light rum
1 oz. Triple sec orange liquor
1 tbsp. Orgest almond liquor or almond flavored syrup
1 tbsp. Grenadine
1 tbsp. lime juice
1 dash 151prf. rum or dark rum (optional)
Shake ingredients (except the dark rum) and strain into a large glass about 1/3 full with crushed ice. Decorate with a maraschino cherry speared to a wedge of fresh pineapple. Top with a dash of dark rum for that reddish color, or for sure inebriation 151 proof rum. Put an orchid in each drink for the full Hawaiian effect
BLUE HAWAII
1 oz light rum
2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz Blue Curacao
1 oz Cream of coconut
1 slice pineapple
1 cherry
Blend light rum, blue curacao, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut with one cup of ice in an electric blender at high speed. Pour contents into a highball glass. Decorate with the slice of pineapple and a cherry.
Around the Islands Basket Toss
You will need:
One basketball hoop or 5 gallon bucket.
1 raffia hula skirt
1 ball (basketball or playground ball)
Chalk or paper cut outs in the shape of the Hawaiian Islands
Set up: Tie a grass hula skirt around a basketball hoop or 5 gallon bucket. If you will be playing this game on a paved surface use chalk to draw the outline of the 7 Hawaiian Islands in a horse shoe shape around the basket/bucket. If you will be playing the game in a grassy area lay out paper cut outs in the shape of the Hawaiian Islands in a horse shoe shape around the basket/bucket. For an extra added touch paint the ball brown with three black ovals like a coconut.
To play: Each player starts at one end of the Hawaiian Islands and takes a turn tossing the ball into the basket/bucket. If a player gets a basket then they get to move on to the next island and take another shot. If a basket is missed then it is the next players turn. The first player to make it around all 7 islands wins!

Hula Around the Islands Basket Toss
You will need:
One basketball hoop or 5 gallon bucket
To play: This game is played similar to the Around the Islands Basket Toss game but is a bit more challenging. Each player starts at one end of the Hawaiian Islands. Before taking a turn shooting the ball into the basket/bucket the first player makes up a hula move (a simple hip, hand, or foot movement). If the ball goes in the basket/bucket then the player stays in the game, if they miss they have to sit out until the next game. The second play then does the hula move the first player made up and adds their own hula move to the end before taking their shot. Once each person has gone then everyone who made the 1st basket moves onto the 2nd island. Each player again adds a new hula move before taking their shot. Those who make each basket continue on to each island. The players who make it to the 7th island and make the shot are the winners and by the end of the game the players will have made up their own hula dance! It is good to have Hawaiian music on in the background during this game to get everyone in the hula dancing move.
Basic Hula Steps:
'Ami: Right - rotate hips counterclockwise, one rotation for each count. Left - rotate hips clockwise. Bent knees make the 'ami easier.
Hela: Point right foot forward, bring back, then point left foot forward, then bring back.
Huli: Rotate around while swaying the hips
Kaholo: A kaholo is more of a sliding step, rather than lifting the foot as you move. It is used to step side to side, front to back, and diagonally.
Ka'o: Sway hips by shifting weight to the right side and lift left heel. Then shift weight to the left side and lift right heel.
Lele: Step right, then left, either forward or back.
Love Hand Movement: Hands cross at chest to show embracing love
Ocean Hand Movement: hands gently beat up and down showing the rhythm of the waves.
Rainbow Hand Movement: palms of the hands meet at the left... right hand lifts and shapes an arching rainbow
Rising Sun Hand Movement: start at the knees, both hands part and rise above the head to shape the sun
Singing or Story Telling Hand Movement: hand gracefully gesturing at mouth for song
Swaying Palms Hand Movement: left arm becomes the land, right arm and fingers sway showing a waving palm.
Swirling Winds Hand Movement: left hand forward while right hand circles twice over head
Tide roll Hand Movement: hands continually roll over each other to show the rolling sea

Kimo Says Hula Game
Pick someone to be the move caller- Kimo. This game is played like "Simon Says". When the caller calls out "Kimo says" and a hula move with a description then everyone should do the hula move. If the caller does not say "Kimo says" before the move then anyone who does the move must sit out until the next game. The game continues until only one person remains.

Hula Charades/Create your own hula Game
Before the party create slips of paper with a hula move including description on it then fold them up and put them in a beach pail. Use each move 2-3 times. At the party provide all players with a master list of the hula moves including description. The host should go first and randomly select a slip of paper with a hula move and perform it. The first person to correctly guess the hula move using their master list gets to pick the next person to perform the charade. The party host should write down each move in order after it has been correctly guessed. After all of the moves have been selected you have just created your own unique hula! Put on Hawaiian hula music and have everyone stand up. The party host takes the list of hula move the players charaded and calls them out while demonstrating the moves to the rhythm of the music. Each move should be done for a count of four or eight.

Hula Hoop Contest
Have a hula hoop contest awarding prizes for the longest hula, the most unique hula, and for the person who can successfully hula the most hoops!

Tip: A fun thing to do for luau parties is make inexpensive hula skirts from unscented drawstring trash bags. Cut the bottom of the bags off then make slits to create the grass hula skirt look. The draw strings will allow the skirts to fit anyone of any size.
To make your own fresh flower leis you will need:
loose orchids
lei needle
lei string
For neck leis use 90" of string and about 50 loose orchids.
For head leis use string about 8" larger than your head measurement and about 25-30 loose orchids.
For wrist/ankle leis use 12" of string and about 10-15 loose orchids.
Paper Lei Making:
This is an ideal activity for young children.
You will need:
string 36"-40" in length
paper
scissors
hole punch (if none just use scissors)
Fillers: colored straws cut up into 2 inch lengths, colored dry macaroni, beads, or curled colored pipe cleaners Create a basic "Daisy" style flower design. Either trace your master flower or copy the flower design onto colored paper. If your lei makers will have limited time cut out the flowers and make a hole in the center of each flower.
To make thread one flower, one "filler" of your choice, one flower, etc onto the string. Leave about 2 inches on each end to tie the lei. Hang around your neck or the neck of your sweetie!

Make Hawaiian cookies. An adult judges each group for their work. You have to try and make shapes with just a knife. When they come out of the oven decorate them. But it is done in a certain amount of time. No prizes, just competition and fun. You will judge on how many cookies each group made with the dough they were given and the amount of time, and also of course how neatly it’s done.
You will need:
Beach towels/mats
Tape/cd player with adjustable volume and a Hawaiian music tape/cd
This game is played like musical chairs. Lay out one less beach towel and/or beach mat than you have players/beach walkers. Have the beach walkers walk in a circle around the towels/mats when the music plays. When the music is turned off the beach walkers must stand on the towel/mat. The beach walker who does not make it to a towel/mat must sit out until the next game. Remove another towel/mat and turn the music back on. Keep repeating this until there is only one beach walker left.
Spear Throwing
See which "warriors" can toss their spear or darts and hit a water melon target. For a special touch decorate the watermelon with ears, snout, eyes, and a curly tail to look like a pig! Rolling Stones
This ancient Hawaiian game is played similar to horseshoes. Set up a small stick post in the ground. Each person chooses a stone and tosses it at the post. Whomever’s stone lands closest to the stick wins! Foot Races
Ancient Hawaiians used to hold foot races to see which warrior was the fastest. You can hold single person races, three legged races, and backwards running races.
Temporary Hawaiian Warrior Tattoos
Use black eyeliner pencils or costume make up sticks to create Hawaiian warrior tattoo designs around the upper arm or around the ankle. These tattoos are very basic using symbols, lines, and dashes. To the right are a few examples but creativity is encouraged.
u fill water balloons with flower and water so its still liqidy** and then ya have a fite...ya get SUPER messy!!

Pass the Package
Use two props related to your party theme, or wrap two boxes to look like beautiful gifts (approximately shoe box size). Divide guests into two teams and have them form two lines. At the signal to "go", the prop is to be passed from person to person. The catch is that guests can use any part of their bodies except their hands. If the gift touches the ground at any time, it must go back to the beginning of the line again. Whichever team manages to get the prop to the end of the line first wins the game. You may want to fill each box with little prizes or candy (enough for all), so that both teams can open the gift and be rewarded for their efforts. We have several very inexpensive prizes in our Party Favor Store. Giggling good grown-up fun!

Honey I Love You
Honey I Love You, is another icebreaker that's fun to play. Your group should be sitting in a circle again with one person in the middle. The person in the middle can go to anyone in the circle and say "Honey I love you, won't you give me a smile?" The person who was asked the question has to answer back "Honey I love you, but I just can't smile" (without smiling.) The person in the middle can do anything to the other person to make them smile except touch them. You have to be the judge as to what you call smiling.
I served chip and dip in a seashell shaped chip/dipo dish. Pigs in the blanket. Fruit kabobs. Cheese cubes and pepperoni kabobs. Tropical Punch served with Umbrella straws.

Use grocery bags. fold them in to little squares and string them with yarn or other string. then clip little peices off the sides of the squares and puff it iup a little.

I have been looking around for ideas myself and found one for a grass skirt...They told you to use a garbage bag with the draw strings. Cut off the bottom and make the "Grass" by cutting the bag into strips...you use the draw string for around the waist. If you want a more pro. type look...why not try using that raffia or paper twist and fasten it to a belt or rope?
I took green glad draw string trash bags- cut the bottoms off, which opened and shorten them to the kids height. I then just cut slits up the bags- Once the cutting was done I glueed cut out flowers which on the fronts. They worked great because I was able to pull the draw string to fit each waist.
well, if your having the class clown type over, the kind who love to be the center of attention i would try doing something like "whose line is it anyway" it sounds kinda dumb but if u do it with the right people its hilarious!

for treat bags, why not make a candy lei? Use cellophane paper, candy and ribbon to create a really nice lei. Could even use it as a craft project and have them make their own!
You could play "Pass the Lei" by dividing into two teams and form two lines. (Or more depending on the size of the party.) Put a lei on the neck of each person in the front of the line. The lei is then passed from one team members neck to the other without using hands. First team to finish wins!

Play "Balancing Flamingos" which is a game of elimination. Two players stand about 5 ft. apart, facing away from each other. Each challenger holds his/her raised foot behind him/her in one hand with a water pistol in the other hand. On the signal, each flamingo turns around and tries to make the other contestant lose his/her balance and drop their foot. The contestants may NOT touch each other, but squirting is allowed. The winner takes on the next challenger, until there is only one player remaining.
"Hula Charades" is played like charades with slips of paper drawn from a beachcomber hat. Use words or songs or movie titles associated with the beach or Hawaii, etc. Now for the fun part. Players "Hula" to act them out. (Use their hands and body in movement and make it look like a dance while giving their clues.) Lots of laughs.
i think that u should go to the dollar store and get about 8 rolls og cheap different colored streamers and string them up over the main party area like a curtain so u can play in it and u can also have some pirvacy.

There is one game that is pretty fun where everyone starts off with $100 monopoly money, and u pay people to do dares. The person with the most money at the end gets a prize.
so I decorated the house with "palm trees". Empty carpet rolls (free from my Lowe's Home Improvement store)with plastic boston ferns stuck in the top. "Coconuts" were small brown papersacks stuffed with newspaper.
we got in a mudd fight and someone brought out glow sticks someone broke there glow stick and so we were glowing and covered in mudd it was so much fun
Donut Eating Comp: Hang donuts on the clothes line with string and the children must put hteir hands behind their backs and eat it. First to finish wins.
For the fruit-filled ice cubes all you do is fill trays half-full with water and freeze. Then add cranberries, small lemon wedges, or berries and finish filling the tray with water; freeze solid.
The one that has worked best for all our parties is a sherbert punch. Get any 1 gallon of any flavor sherbert and 2 2 litters of ginger ale. Put your sherbert in a punch bowl and pou over the ginger ale. it foams up and everyone one loves it.
The cake was wonderful. It had a candy flower lei draped across the top and down one side. The other top side had a palm tree, brown sugar beach and a hula dancer. Hope this helps.
for decoraration: they used small glass bowls and put a gold fish or beta fish in it, then floated a hawaiin looking flower on top.

They lit the drive way with tiki torches and had everyone where leis.

For food we had grilled chicken kabobs with pinaple, and other grilled fruits
One game is shaving ballons full of water (should be done outdoors). The person to have the cleanest balloon without popping it, wins~
I've made three kinds of beachy cakes. The first was an under the sea kind of theme, with candy fish, icing seaweed and a treasure chest of candies at the bottom. Ground up vanilla cookies make good sand. Another was made to look like a pool. Gel icing colored blue for the water, Nerds candy for the pool deck, teddy grahams in gummi lifesavers in the water.

Instead of a cake, how about purchasing small beach pails with sand shovel and filling the pail with cut up pound cake mixed with smashed graham crakers and vanilla pudding. And each guest can eat it with their own shovel.

Dirt cake, you put it in a little bucket and put a little shovel in the top of it and whatever else you want on the top of it - looks just like someone shoveled up a bunch of wet dirt and put it in a bucket!

Play find the human pinyatas. First you dim the lights, put a blindfold over someone, and spin them until they are dizzy. They're "it". "It" is given a pillow to swing and hit people. Everyone else hides around the room like behind a couch, in a corner, or just lying flat on the floor. Its more fun if you move around and try to make noises misleading "it". "It" must hit someone with their pillow. Whoever "it" hits is now "it". "It" can try to make the other people laugh in order to know where to swing their pillow.

Soda pong

Get mom or dad to help arrange a scavenger hunt with the neighbors on your street. Split your guests up into 2 or 3 "teams" to go from door to door, collecting the items on the list with pillow cases in hand. The team that completes the list and returns home first wins the hunt.

A sample list of items for your scavenger hunt:
A foreign coin
A roll of toilet paper
Paper clip
Hair pin
#2 pencil
birthday candle
old newspaper
business card
paper cup or plate
balloon
A piece of pink or blue paper
A secret password

- Make your own lanterns
- Pitching the tent(s)
- Making and setting up their own treats for the night: Mixing lemonade, making trail mix, etc.
- Cut the cake after their meal and before dark
- 13 Year old girls love anything to do with primping - do nails/hair/temporary tattoos

- They also LOVE just hanging out together. Make sure all their favorite music is playing and let them chit chat and be silly.

Good old fashioned camping always includes telling (sometimes scary) stories around a campfire. If you're not OK with an actual fire, you can use a lantern or flashlights - an activity could be to make your own lanterns. Look on the internet for scary stories - make sure they are appropriate for 13 year olds. Get some glow sticks, make some trail mix, make s'mores (melted sandwiches of graham crackers, chocolate bar and marshmallow), set up some seating outside the tents (like logs) and spook each other out. Now this is really sneaky but, if you have any brothers or sisters, you can put them up to making noises and creeping everyone out even more! Make sure everyone knows it was them in the end so they can get a good night's sleep.

- Endurance test (holding a watermelon above their heads (arms outstretched) the longest or holding something heavy in each hand and keeping your hands extended to the sides
