Other themes might be a costume party (whether haunted house style or more phatom of the opera style), a treasure hunt (make authentic looking maps of the neighborhood and hide clues leading to the treasure chest- which could be hidden in yours or a friend's yard and filled with prizes, goodies, whatever), a skate party (it's a little outdated, but still fun), an ethnic theme (I always liked the idea of an Arabian Nights theme), a Hollywood theme (buy costume props to make your own games and plays or movies...), a sport or hobbie theme (soccer, softball, gymnastics, art, flying, etc.), a fair or carnival theme (rent a bounce house and cotton candy machine, buy a roll of tickets, make games, hang christmas lights, etc. -www.ustoy.com has a lot supplies, etc for that theme), a pirate or never-never land or fantasy theme, or a space theme (a laser tag place might be a fun place to incorporate with a space theme).

I was never a girly girl either so for my 9th birthday i had a rock and roll themed party. I had a DJ and everyone danced. We got black lights and strobe lights and turned my family room into a nightclub. And everyone came dressed up like rockers.
