Hello, I would like to ask for some advice...I need a doberman obedience trainer for me.
I have an approx. 3yr old neutered rescue male. Wonderful, happy fellow and very loving. BUT (there is always a but)lol
Bud will not come when he is called. I have owned him for 2 years, we have just recently moved to 3/4 acre fenced yard. He, besides going to the dog park, has been on leash since I have owned him. Never having worked him off leash I didn't know I had this problem. Recently he was let out of my yard by accident and when I tried to call him back he ran like the devil was on his tail!! I made the mistake of running after him and he ran further and faster then ever. I turned around and walked home, thinking he would follow, he was acting like it was a game, get mom to chase me, he eventually came back. Now I live in the woods and have very few neighbors, so I didn't have to worry about the road or neighbors complaining, but it seems I should be able to train this out of him and just don't know where to start. Letting him loose frequently is not an option to me as I couldn't stand life if he should not come back or someone stole him or worse he was hurt.
Any doberman human trainers out there? I need help. I am recently self unemployed and would have a great deal of time to spend on my training Bud.
Thank you ahead of time for any advice to send me,
Get a long lead and reward him when he comes like you would a puppy. Dobies are very smart dogs. We use tiny pieces of carrots as rewards. Our two will do anything for a treat.
