Some thoughts about Lamar Davis

This is a message that I should have posted about four years ago. However, I suppose four years late is better than never.

I work in the field of IT and I earn a living by building web applications and generally promoting people via the web. I like to think that I'm good at what I do. A number of years ago I did some work for a guy from my home town in Scotland - a JKD guy with the initials TC. I personally wrote the code for his online JKD club and I filmed over a hundred videos with him and generally spent some time working for him and promoting his interests as best as I could.

Back then I remember that there was quite a lot of - shall we say - heated forum debates going back and forward between that camp and you guys. Most of those conversations were basically of the format, "You suck and so does your martial arts". Some of it was quite entertaining but some of it got a bit ridiculous and hot headed. Sometimes the people on my side of the debate would swear like drunken sailors. Although you guys retaliated I don't think you were ever quite as foul mouthed as the people on my side of the debate.

Anyway, today I was browsing around and - just out of curiosity - I thought I'd see what has happened in the JKD world over the last four years. I can see that there's been a few sad losses (Jerry Poteet, Ted Wong and others). I can also see that the concepts movement - once considered the leading authority on JKD - has pretty made faded into the world of MMA. I can also see that "the Professor" is still promoting himself as being the guiding light of the JKD World and has somehow managed to avoid getting sued.

In any event, I just wanted to say that I regret those debates and I apologise for those debates. I don't consider myself to be a martial artist but I don't think you have to be a rocket scientist to figure out who is the real deal and who is not. If flashy YouTube videos with lots of views are your main criterion for deciding who the best JKD guy is then we can have a conversation about that. However, if integrity, literacy, eloquence and character count for anything these days, then as far as I'm concerned LM is the future of JKD.

Good luck to you!
