Correct Bai Jong

November 25 2004, 7:53 PM

Hello Dani!

The idea is to be ready to move at any time, but do not move unless it is necessary. To do more than that is to waste energy, which is in violation of your economy of motion rule! If your oponent is moving around a lot, however, you might have to do the same to maintain the proper fighting measure.

Kicking Methods

November 29 2004, 7:41 PM

Hi Dani!

The hook kick can be delivered from the bai jong position in several ways.

(1) Stationary - Just kick without moving the rear foot at all.
(2) Shuffle & Kick - Shuffle the rear foot half the distance between its starting point and the lead foot, then kick.
(3) Pendulum & Kick - Execute the pendulum shuffle (rear foot slides rapidly forward and taps lead, then kick goes out) and fire the kick.
(4) Kick Step - Use the momentum of the kick to pull the rear leg up and displace the front foot with the rear as you kick.
(5) Step, Shuffle & Kick - Execute a stutter step with the lead foot (short step of about a foot or so), then slide the rear foot up and kick.
(6) Burning Step Kick - Quickly move the rear foot forward about six inches to a foot, tapping the floor as if stepping on a hot plate, then fire the kick as the rear foot displaces the lead or lunges past where the lead was.

That about covers it!

Kicking Footwork / Class Structure

November 30 2004, 7:33 PM

Hi Dani!

That's pretty much how it works on the kicking footwork! Kick instead of stepping! As for the structure of my classes, that is on my website under Class Curriculum.

Push Shuffle

December 1 2004, 7:25 PM

Hi Dani!

In order to kick with a push shuffle, you would need to cover distance on the opponent. Push with the raised rear heel, step forward with the lead foot, then kick as the rear foot shuffles forward! I hope that makes sense to you!
