Gaining mass.......

Hi!
I've just started on the Whey shakes, and trying to eat more, in order to gain some muscular mass.
I'm basically after any advice that you guys can give me, in terms of this subject!

I was also considering getting a chin-up bar, and a set of cheap weights, to aid the dietary change.
One of the probs I face is the fact that, well, I don't like eating!
I've always been very skinny, due to metabolism mostly, but also poor diet.
I find it very difficult to get motivated about eating, as I have spent all my life eating badly, and not enjoying it, plus, being poor means I can't buy many things that I like.

So, what I want is any advice and/or tips from people, who have maybe been in the same position as myself, and have made things work for them.
Are there any cost-effective ways to bulk up, and also, are there any real dangers that I should look out for?

Thanks in advance, Jake Pepworth

In way of food:
You must east about 500 kcals above your average spending on a day. Best to do is 2-3 times the fatfree bodyweight on proteins (well, 1000 times less then 2-3 times the fatfree body weight), about 1-1.5 times the fatfree bodyweight in fat and the rest of your calories in sugars.
The fat and the sugar are as important as the proteins, since if you eat sugars and fat enough, you burn only few proteins for energy.
If you eat balow your average burning, then you will grow only very little, except in the first year of your training... So its important to eat a lot, so i guess that is your big problems... Guess u should come live in belgium for some months, you will learn how to eat :p

In the way of training:
Dont overdo, try to take weight and do reps from 6-12 in 2-3 sets.

But I'm not a big fan of chocolate!

The hardest thing for me to do is to stay commited to a difficult eating regime, whilst managing work, a college course etc.
Luckily I've found a protein shake that I like the taste of, and which also has a hight yeild of protein!

I've yet to get the money for some weights, but that should kick-start some enthusiasm when it happens!

Don't walk before you crawl

Whats up Jake,

First thing to do is get healthy. If you haven't been physicaly active your body needs to get in shape before any muscle begins to grow. Eat healthy, get sucfficent rest, and slowly begin a excersise program.

Hit the library and read anything on health, fitness and bodybuilding. Don't get caught up in fad workouts or diets. The more you read the more you will be able to discern what works and what dosen't.

Start with callisthenics, they build the primary muscles you need and they don't cost you anything (ex:Pullups, push-ups, dips, jumpings squats, hindu squats, ect.)

Cardio vascular system, if your goal is to gain size don't jog/run for long periods. Instead do wind sprints or 100 meter dashes. You can also do you calisthenics one right after the other with no rest to get your heart pumping.

Build a varitey of excersies and continually look for new ways to work different muscles. Change the order of the excersies you do and add new things in this helps when workouts seem to get stale/boring.

Nothing is set in stone, change your workouts to your likes and your goals. But don't throw things out cause they are to hard that won't get you anywhere.

Find someone to workout with someone who will call you lazy and talk trash to you when you don't fell like working out. You'll excersise to shut them up and then you can return the favor when they get lazy. LOL.

Be persistant, nothing happens in days and results don't happen in hours. You'll know when you beign to look right because people will tell you especially the ladies. The compliments from the ladies alone should be motavation enough for you to keep working out.

Good Luck

I've being trying to regularly take JKD and BJJ for about 6 months now, and the weight gaining I've just started, yeah, I'm a novice!

I've been doing the protein shake and solid eating thing, I just need to get the money for some cheap weights.

I did get one of those chin up bars, but the landlord won't let me drill any brackets onto the walls!

This might be better

my title wasn't meant to dis anyone on the fourm, that's just what poped into my head at the time.

Try local health food stores some make in house supplements and they might also carry suplments in their raw forms which cost less.

Make sure you work your legs once a week. Your legs muscles naturally carry more testosterone, by working the legs you release it. Then your body will use the extra testosterone while working the other muscles and gains in your arms, back, shoulders, chest will be easier.
