Hello!
There is a big difference between belts and certificates! The belt is worn with a uniform to display your rank in the specific system of martial arts you are studying, therefore announcing on site that you are "such and such belt" to anyone that sees a class in action. Certicates are either at home on a wall or put away somewhere, symbolizing the personal satisfaction that you have achieved something in Jeet Kune Do. There is no "public display" of what your rank is! This can definitely have it's advantages!
Also, most Jeet Kune Do kwoons do not have a set required uniform. Therefore, belts would look pretty goofy with some of the things that JKD people wear! LOL At my kwoon, students are required to eventually purchase gung fu pants and t-shirts with the Hardcore Jeet Kune Do logo embroidered on them, but it is not an absolute neccesity for anyone to achieve any kind of rank! That is up to the individual and no pressure is placed on them! I hope this clears things up a bit for you!
Keep Blasting!
