Juen Tek or Spinning So Tek?

February 24 2005, 3:38 PM

Hello!

Are you referring to the juen tek (spin back kick)? That is delivered with the rear leg, but follows a more direct path to the target, which would normally be the solar plexus region. For a detailed explanation of the kick, and to see Bruce Lee demonstrating it, see the Bruce Lee's Fighting Method book series. Or, are you referring to the spinning so tek (reverse hook kick). You know, what most arts call a hook kick is a reverse hook kick in Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do's Oou Tek (hook kick) is what most arts refer to as a round kick, only a bit more direct in it's path to the target.

so thats the reverse hook kick .....
in tkd we call that the long back spinning kick
see i thought the reverse hook was the one where instead of the normal pathway of the hook kick (hitting with top of foot leg going outside to inside) that it was inside to outside so your leg kinda goes in an arc.I think bruce lee did this kick in enter the dragon with a front kick as well.
it is after his shirt gets riped and i think it is just before the group of people attacts him and he gets the wooden pole...
if this makes any sense could some clear it up for me

Kicks

Hi Dani!

Don't get the spinning reverse hook confused with just a basic reverse hook! The so tek (sweep, or reverse hook kick) is what most arts refer to as a hook kick. Only when you spin and execute it is it a spinning reverse hook kick. Normal delivery is directly from the on guard position. Your lead foot travels up, across the centerline and then back into and through the center with the heel or ball of the foot making contact with the opponent's face.

reverse hook

March 8 2005, 6:18 PM

this kick i can not do!!!
the balance is the issue i think!
spinning i can do better then then normal reverse hook but tha is still pretty bad also!
where do you get the power for the normal reverse hook kick?? is it putting you whole hip into it on the swing back of you know what i mean and then sort of using your body weight to push with your heel on the head???

If you're having trouble with it, try the "crescent" variation. The leg follows basically the same path, but you hit with the outside edge of the foot rather than the heal. It seems to require less flexibility. I always found it easier anyway.
