Hello Sifu,
Thanks for your recent e-mail it was good to hear from you. Can you please tell me what the following terms mean?
Sot Kil
Sol Jee

Also, what is Lan Sao?

I am having trouble visualising how to do ‘double jut sao/lan sao’ hopefully this is because I don’t know what lan sao means.

Hope to hear from soon, all the best
Stephen Hore-Lacy

Hi Paul,
I have those video tapes on enregy (vol 7 and 8) and I have found them to be excellent. In fact I loved them so much I ordered the complete series on DVD.

With many years Wing Chun training I normally don't have a problem with Chi Sao or Trapping. We use all the Wing Chun terminology but I have never heard of:
Sot Kil
Sol Jee
Lan Sao

I have since found out that Sot Kil means hammer fist, so that one shouldn't be a problem any more.
That still leaves Sol Jee and Lan Sao.
I want to be able to do all the material from the Senior Skill Level (part 3).
As soon as I know what Lan Sao means I can start practising 'Double Jut Sao/Lan Sao', which is a requirement.

Thanks, Steve

Terminology Questions

Hello Stephen!

Sot Kil - Hammer Fist
Sol Jee - Sweeping Fingers (sort of slinging the fingers at the eyes, like you are slinging water off your fingertips)
Lan Sao - Bar Arm (using your arm like it is a steel bar to trap or pin one or both of your opponents arms during a trapping compbination)

I have also been asked recently about the term Jin Chuie. Jin Chuie is the good old uppercut punch!
