hi guys,
hope all is well..

ok i hear that jkd involves 32 grappling moves and i was wondering if anyone could possible share these with me

i also would like to know that if you attack a person and after you kicked they kick at you.. he possibility of your changing direction from all your weight going forward to all your weight going back is extremely dificult and hard to understand how it would be possible..
i know that in jkd it is not to say that you will not have to ake a hit in a match or fight but i was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on my matters
thankyou

dani

Balance and a Plan

June 4 2005, 4:48 PM

Hi Dani,
You can’t just come crashing in head on and over extended, you need balance and a plan. If your head on kick isn’t going to destroy your opponent then don’t throw it. In JKD it is better to use the angles (SAA) so that you don’t have to attack head on. If that doesn’t work you need to set your kick up; you can’t just launch and hope. This is when you might use your Progressive Indirect Attack (PAA) which incorporates fakes.
If your balanced and don’t over extend it is much easier to change the angles.
Study your 5 ways of attack as all the answers are in there.
Hope this helps,
and Sifu if your reading this can you correct any mistakes I may have made.
Thanks, Steve

32 Grappling Moves

June 4 2005, 5:27 PM

Hi Dani,
Forgot to answer your grappling question.
The grappling moves you speak of is more or less just a few techniques with different variations. Eg wrist Lock and reverse wrist lock.
There are a few leg lock variations, arm bar variations, figure four arm lock variations, neck torques, various single leg take downs, and neck cradle. Then there is foul tactics like maiming and biting (as demonstrated in Longstreet I think).
And lastly you have my favourite – Anti Grappling. Eg Forearm Shield and Rake against Shooting Entry.
Bruce’s approach to grappling was to avoid grappling if possible, hence the term anti grappling. Stay standing and keep your options open even if it means making a hasty retreat. It is hard enough as it is fighting multiple opponents; don’t make it harder by lying down.
Hope this helps and hopefully Sifu will correct my mistakes
Thanks, Steve

easier said then done

June 4 2005, 10:01 PM

ok,

i get the whole if you are going to kick you kick with intent and actually hurt the opponent.
but for instance this is my siuation.
i am going into a tkd competition on august mainly for some sparring practise were the opponent is actually trying to hurt you. now they do where chest guards so one kick aint going to phase them that much.
i was training with a boy the other day who is alot taller then me and built likea brick wall
when i kick (to score a point) i cant get out fast enough before he kicks me... how can i change direction quick enough to recover?
i am aware that if i was in a real fight with him i would jam up as his legs are longer then mine but i want to be able to recover wih a person like that so i can recover with just about anyone..
do you get what i mean??

and with the 32 moves would you be able to explain them or show me a web site that does explain each of them. i get the anti grappling thing and i agree totally but the 32 moves are apart of jkd and just in case i think i should be prepeared in all areas as you never know what happens

thankyou for the help keep it up

regards
dani

The "32 Moves"

June 5 2005, 2:06 AM

Hi Dani!

The 32 moves are a "concepts" idea. I have never heard of any original Jeet Kune Do Instructor saying there are 32 grappling moves in Jeet Kune Do! When it comes to grappling, you should stick to things that are fast, direct and very damaging for the effort expended! Things such as Stephen mentioned above! I will be showing all Hardcore Jeet Kune Do grappling/counter grappling movements in one of the volumes of my upcoming Hardcore Jeet Kune Do book series!
