1 inch punch or 1 inch push??

hi guys,

i watched the demo that bruce lee did of the 1 inch punch the other day and i have a statment!

bruce lee hit the center of gavity of the person wich would force a man big or small backwards.
and he didnt actually punch he pushed! it was a connect at first and then he just pushed his shoulder out and he guy fell backward!

im a 15 year old girl and i did the same thing to my body builder father! all i did was connect like a punch and then pushed my shoulder out PRECISELY what bruce lee did and i knocked dad back and he nearly fell over.
it wasnt that he could punch that hard as to knock him over at that distance it was that he hit in the right spot in wich the man was destined to fall backwards (his center of gravity)and just pushed alittle!!

now whatever i have said in this post might come across as offending to bruce lee or jkd followers but i want you all to know that NOTHING in the world could chnage my feelings for bruce lee and i still think and will always think that he is the best martial artist and philosopher that has ever lived i just am seeking the wow factor that was suposed to be present in the famous bruce lee one inch punch.

still and forever will be the BIGGEST bruce lee fan in history
regards
dani piper

NOT Just A Push!

June 13 2005, 11:46 AM

Hi Dani!

Trust me, the one inch punch is far from being just a push! IT IS actually a punch. I have taken people clean off their feet with this punch. The confusion is brought about by the fact that there is some connection when the punch starts. That's the thing about the one inch, until you feel it executed by someone like me that KNOWS how to do it, it is easily misunderstood!

JKD Concepts

June 16 2005, 1:04 PM

I don't DISLIKE JKD concepts per say. That is, I don't look at it and *snort" "pss, JKD concepts. What crap".

It's just, if you want to do Jeet Kune Do - then do it like Bruce taught it and trained it. Why add all these other arts (a lot of which Bruce specifically said "no" to) into the mix and still call it JKD? Read the X and Y letter to Sifu Poteet. It clearly shows that you should not do this.

So, I don't have a problem with what they are doing, teaching, learning etc - I mostly just have a problem that they call it JKD. It confuses the layman and makes people think JKD is just "whatever", a "everything but the kitchen sink" art. And it's not. All the students I have came to me with that idea - they were suprised to learn otherwise. Adding "Concepts" to the end doesn't help. Drop the JKD name if you are mixing arts into it, or be very clear that it's not JKD when you teach it.

Again, I train other arts - Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu mostly - and I may even teach it to some of my guys on occasion - BUT I DO NOT call it JKD. JKD is JKD. Anything else is not. Sounds silly to say it like that, but that's the facts ma'am.

X and Y Letter

June 16 2005, 4:59 PM

X is Jeet Kune Do.
Y is the style that you will represent.

To represent and teach Y, one
should drill its members according
to the preaching of Y.

This is the same with anyone
who is qualified and has been
approved to represent X.

To justify by interfusing X and Y
is basically the denying of
Y ......... but still calling
it Y.

A man, as you put it, is one
who is noble to stick to the
road he has chosen.

A garden of rose will yield
rose, and a gardne of violets
will yield violets.

wrong end of the stick

June 22 2005, 8:29 AM

sorry guys i thought that when someone taught jkd concepts they ment that they taught the philisophical side of jkd and then let the student develop there own style..

see i dont say that i agree with this as jkd had specific techniques for a reason being that they were effective and usefull but i gathered because u guys are like not likeing jkd concepts that you were only interested in the actual fighting and not the mind stuff aswell...

i am confused i think as i watched bruce lee's jkd with dan inosanto and he said that concepts were what i explained above....

has anyone met dan inosanto? he seems genuine but i personally think that he says he teaches jkd but teaches jkd but not jkd if you know what i mean .. i dont know hey i have never met the guy so yeah this is just specualtion p.s no offense meant

ok well best be off
stay safe everyone
