straight kick

June 26 2005, 4:20 AM

man , i dont think i get most of this hey.

i resembled the straight kick to be somewhat imilar to the tkd frontkick but then how on earth can you have a reverse straight kick and a straight kick that can hook into the groin and the same kick able to kick the front of the face..
with this kick is the foot pulled back or forward??

and with the hook kick i am gathering it is a roundhouse kick yes? or in tkd a turning kick.
and a inverted hook kick is mmm.... a kick that was used alot in ener the dragon when the leg starts on the opposite side of your body and travels out.. sort of opposite to what the roundhouse kick travels as it travels inwards if you know what i mean..

wel il keep reading lol sorry about all the questions everyone you know what i am like

gotta love me

Jeet Kune Do Kicks

July 1 2005, 12:43 PM

Hi Dani!

You are trying to overcomplicate things! FORGET what is said in the Tao of Jeet Kune Do about the different kicks! That is just an overly thorough breakdown of various kicks. Concentrate on the fact that there are eight primary kicks in Jeet Kune Do, and they are all very direct. They are:

Jik Tek - Straight Kick
Juk Tek - Side Kick
Oou Tek - Hook Kick
Hou Tek - Back Kick
Dum Tek - Stamp Kick
Qua Tek - Inverted Hook Kick
Juen Tek - Spin Back Kick
So Tek - Sweep/Reverse Hook Kick

Once you get these kicks down, then start experimenting with different ways to use them and different possible combinations. The possibilities are endless if you just open your mind and go with it! Also, remember that tae kwon do uses a different method of kicking which is nowhwere near as efficient as Jeet Kune Do's kicking method. I worry about your tae kwon do training interfering with your Jeet Kune Do, as the movements of the two arts are completely different in every way!

hey, some questions

with the 8 kicks can you please explain each of them and describe the execution of the for example the path they travel ect so i can get an idea of what the kick actually is!

how can i apprach kicking training when there are so many ways to do a kick for example footwork ect ect.

what different surfaces can i use to train kicking i have a punching bag and a occasional sparring partner.

how do i go about doing strength or speed exercises without getting bulky and not ruining speed and strength.

Dani!

I would have to write a book to answer all of those questions, and I don't have that kind of time! Fortunately, the books have already been written! Everything you seek is within the four Bruce Lee's Fighting Method books! Go back and read them again. It's all there!
