Yes, I feel that you can develop an effective, functional physique using calisthenics! Especially if you get creative and use a variety of exercises! It helps if you have a flat bench, chin up bar, dip bars and a swiss ball. You can even make great use of a couple of sturdy chairs! If you can add a few sets of dumbells of a moderate weight, you can really get creative! Do a variety of push ups, pull ups, dips and abdominal exercises. I occasionally go to a park with one of those really nice playstations for kids and just do as many different exercises and stretches as I can possibly think of! People may look at you funny but just remember that you are there for YOU, not for their entertainment! As I always tell my students, EVERYTHING helps!
