| Hey Sifu Davis,
Prior to a few weeks ago, I've never been able to land the sidekick to body in sparring. However I've gotten the knack of it lately. The thing is, it seems to just push away my opponent, it doesn't seem to do any actual damage. Also, is it possible to really do a sidekick to the kicking sheild and have the opponent "fly" away like in Way of the Dragon? I've tried it and they do stumble back, but its not as dramatic as Bruce's kick.

In my own opinion keep practicing!!!! that triger squeeze as you continue sharpening that aim firer response. keep banging! on that target board... as practice seems the only way to get better at anything one puts there mind too....:) |

Well its no secret technique lol... it was something bruce used in training methods, its all to do with energy.
forexample... if you was doing chi sao then there would be pressure on each side(but there may not be) and if there wasnt then you would firer forward of that trigger squeeze in the energy, its all to do with setting off different tools on your body to firer shots ,now it could be a kick or punch.(non intention)is like if the gun went of by accident, the same thing if you was driving your car and you had to jamm on the breaks because someone jumped out on you.
I think thats where we are trying to be... so everthing can just react without any thought as bruce lee said "how much time is lost from your thought to your fist or kick.
now trigger squeezs is everywhere in your movements be it light trigger or heavy trigger or something inbetween.(like thrust type of thing)you see your punches or kicks will either be snappy, pushy,or thrust. The thrust was where i think bruce was aiming at so to keep good form and ecconomy in his movements.
have you ever trained with weights and you did heavy ones and light weights and you felt a different response in the execution of lifting them.....now if say you was doing bench press then the squeeze would be at the point where the barbell is at the bottom nearly touching your chest now the squeeze is inbetween pressing the break and then releasing it for the car to go forward.
so when pushing the barbell up you feel the squeeze.
theres different trigger squeezes in the different positions you put your self into for different exercises.
you can intercept on your oopents trigger as he sets himself "playing between the keys of different movements"
bruce trained the light and heavy systems both in weight training and using different pieces of equipment.
hope this helps :) |
