JKD vs. BJJ

I was wondering what would a Jkd fighter do against a Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu fighter? I pretty much have an idea as to what they would do; i suppose they would intercept and evade most attacks, but how would they deal with its vaunted takedowns and ground fighting?

This is what Sifu Davis told me once:

"One of my favorite tactics to use against a grappler is to drop low as the come in, jamming one of my forearms right into the top of their shoulder/neck area, then follow up with a series of upward thrusting "rake" strikes into their face with my finger tips! If they wanted to grapple any more it would have to be using the braille system!"

AGAINST THE GRAPPLER

September 4 2005, 8:41 PM

ONE technique i used at one of lamars seminars against one of the students who was a student of the kempo sensei who was hosting the seminar was this one.this happened years ago and i believe it was one of andy slivinskis {not quite sure i spelled that right as it was years ago} kempo students who,at the time was really into the brazilian gracie jui jitsu stuff like so many were back then. youll notice that when most grapplers come in there kinda crouched over and theyll come in with their face almost facing downwards -as they rush in take one of your arms and place the part of your forearm that runs along your thumb and place that into their throat now with the other arm place that arms forearm flat across their back so its like your elbow is near their shoulder and your hand is next to or near to their other shoulder.now with the arm where you have your forearm in their throat push up -the other forearm on top of their back -press down.its important you press hard down with the top forearm and the bottom forearm you use that hand hold onto your other arm near your inner elbow or their clothing.this applies a VISE LIKE pressure into their throat and it is a submission hold-my favorite! - simple but effective! of course at the seminar i couldnt really choke out this guy cause at a seminar youre not supposed to choke out one of the students of the sensei who was sponsoring the seminar so i let loose of the choke and we went to the ground and it was more or less a draw with him on the bottom in his gracie hold legs wrapped around me and me delivering fake straight punches and backhands to his groin! be careful with this one its like lamars cradle tech.and it is a submission hold theyll either give up or youll easily apply enough pressure to choke them out! be careful training this as it is VERY EASY to crush someones windpipe with this if you apply too much force -so practice this VERY CAREFULLY AND REMEMBER PARTNER PRESERVATION! TOE DAI LUKE -OUT!
