Bruce's kick training

Hello Sifu. I don't know if you own a Bruce Lee magazine that's now out of print called Bruce Lee: The official publication & voice of the Bruce Lee Educational Foundation. It was the Millenium issue that came out I think in January or February 2000, can't remember. It had an article on Bruce Lee's kicks. In the article there was a quote by Jesse Glover saying that when Bruce came to the United States from Hong Kong, he was told by Yip Man that the only way you could develop a functional kick was by extending it forward and pointing with the tip of the foot for extendend periods of time. Any thoughts on this kind of training method? Thanks.

Javier.

Yes,That training is duk lopma or Single leg standing,This is were you stand on one leg with the other leg in a bend knee position as if you were going to do a stomp kick. Some Wing Chun people would even practice Siu lim tao while in the stances. At this stage of your training you start getting into Chi Gerk or Sticky leg drills and free kick sparring and concepts of Underkicking and three limb fighting(incorporating kicks with trapping hands skills.I hope that helps. Yes and no. I meant that for example: You slowly extend your lead kicking leg out and hold it out there while it is fully extended. Say a leg extended in the form of a side kick, a hook kick and front/straight kick. Thanks anyway.

Javier.
