For along time now i've been really enthusiastic about getting involved in the martial arts seriously.Yet i've been tied up in the war since 2001. I've been considering purchasing the instuctional tapes but i'm not sure if it will give me a significant edge on my goals. I've looked for FAQ's on this subject and iwasn't able to find any. Could u please give me some advice on how to negotiate these instructional videos.I would really appreciate it

a perspective student,

SPC Brown.

Nothing is like being trained/instructed in person but the dvd's offered by Sifu Davis do show a lot of detail that will get you started in Jeet Kune Do. I get to train with Sifu Davis and use the dvd's as guides in my personal training. It might take more time to really get the correct feel but it is a start.

Ordering DVDs

September 6 2006, 2:00 PM

Hello!

First of all, thank you for your interest in my instructional DVDs. My instructional DVDs are without a doubt the most in-depth DVDs on Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do on the market, and definitely offer by far the most instruction per DVD! They are designed so that you can actually learn from them! I would suggest that whenever you get ready to order, you start with number one and go through the series in the order they are numbered! That is the way they are designed to work! Let me know when you are ready to order. I can cut you a better deal on ordering more at a time as opposed to just ordering one DVD at a time! Paypal ( https://www.paypal.com ) is definitely the best, safest and fastest way to order from me! I look forward to your reply!

Re: Dear Mr. Davis

I have been training with Sifu Dsvis for a few years and think that hands-on training is the BEST approach. Aside from the interactive element, it FORCES you to actually train. With DVDs or books, it's easy to procrastinate or convince yourself that you know something just because you watched the DVD or read the book. It's also very easy to underestimate the effectiveness of a certain technique until you understand it. Up until recently, I have considered the DVDs as reference material.

The reason that I have recently changed my mind is after subscribing to a martial-arts DVD subscription service, my eyes were opened to instructors that claim to be teaching JKD when they aren't (or teaching it badly). I realized that Sifu Lamar's DVDs serve another important purpose: showing you what real JKD actually is!

My personal opinion is that the approaches (in order of desirability) are as follows:
1. Hands on training
2. Buy DVDs, practice regularly with a friend, and go occasionally to seminars to help ground yourself
3. Buy DVDs and practice regularly with a friend
4. Buy DVDs and practice regularly

If it is impossible to make it to seminars, I think your best bet is to find a training partner. I think it would be hard to effectively learn JKD (or any martial art) without a training partner.
