Just wondering if you could enlighten us all on the "Third Hand Principle", it's drills and applications. Thanks!

Hello Bryan!

The "third hand" is what the sliding leverage half beat strikes between traps are referred to! Because of the structure involved, it is as if you have three hands controlling the opponent!

An example would be:

Matched Leads
You pak sao/punch
Opponent over parries across centerline
You slide a bil jee to the eyes in under your arm but over theirs, bridging on their arm
Your bil jee then becomes a lop sao
You lop and hit the opponent with a backfist or straight punch

In an issue of the "Jeet Kune Do Magazine", Jerry Poteet (who I believe actually coined the term) once wrote an article about the "Third Hand Principle".
Jerry explained that it was an advanced part of Bruce´s HIA drills, but that it also could be applied to all other ranges.
Eliminating any passive moves, at any given opportunity Bruce would incorporate extra hits in between his trapping manouvers.
With hits being the primary objective ("always think of hitting!"), a typical sequence woud be hit/trap/hit, rather than pak/pak/hit, etc.

ALL CAPS in internet language means that you are YELLING! That is not necessary here! Also, there is no such word as "eny". The correct word is "any". As for third hand principle, I have learned it from several First Generation students of Bruce Lee, and if you know it, you know it. It's just that simple! You don't have to go to Jerry Poteet to get it! By the way, it is also referred to as the Invisible Hand, and Steve Golden is an excellent instructor of the technique as well! I learned it from both, and have had no problems teaching it to anyone who wanted to learn it!
