Using alternate weapons (empty hand)

I have long been a proponent of using every weapon in a fight if you have to. For instance, utilizing inner and outer forearm strikes, and shin strikes too.

Let's say your opponent attacks with a right lead punch and instead of intercepting with a straight kick or lead leg side kick, you sidestep and simultaneously fire a low line kick with your shin to the top of your opponents' knee or just above/below it, and as your striking leg lands back on the ground you follow up with a left cross or some combo off of it. This can be very devastating to your opponent and hard to counter.

Also, you can use this against a right lead opponent who attacks by firing a rear leg round house/hook kick ala Muay Thai-type attacks, same counter, simpley side-step while firing a hook kick of your own to his leg. Pretty powerful counter that just might get your opponet to the ground.

What are some attacks you guys can think of?

Your still at the thinking stage.
The movements will be automatic after more years of training or maybe never.
After the fight, some one should tell you what happened. Weather you hit or kicked or what ever you did to the person.
You will not know what happened because "IT" happened.
All your movements just went into action without thinking. Some what like a missile, it just goes until it hit's, the missile does not think. Pretty simple Heh.

Hmmmm ...

That sounds almost exactly like what I was telling one of my students the other day! Most of the fights I have been in, I have had to think about it after it was over to decide exactly what I had just done! "IT" took over when the time came, and the tools acted properly based on the training they had received!

For those of you who don't know him, (of course, Sifu Davis knows him well), I'm pretty sure that Bryan is not in the "thinking stage." For "IT" to hit automatically, neuro-pathways must be formed and muscle memory must come into play. This is a popular topic of discussion in Sifu's classes and a very important one to understand. As we all know, creating these pathways and training your muscles means practice. Hence, the scenarios Bryan was talking about. I believe what Bryan was doing was trying to get a good discussion going on the various weapons that can be used in combat. No need to cut a discussion short with lectures on not thinking.

Yes, Bryan is a certified Full Instructor under me, so he is well past the "thinking about it" stage when it comes to actual fighting! In order for "IT" to actually take over and strike when the right time comes, all of the elements that make "IT" work must be trained! The more variety you have in training your tools, the more prepared you will be for "IT" to do its job correctly when actual combat occurs!
