choosing to wear blinders

Some people are just choosing to waer blinders or ignore the truth. The correspondance below is from another forum where the question was asked why did Bruce Lee take out trapping from JKD? I made the statment that this particular camp says that Bruce was doing away with certain elements such as the wing chun, trapping, mook jong work etc... of the JKD foundation when in fact he was not as it was already apart of him. You trained what he wanted to use you for that day. This is a known fact that Bruce used his students attributes to train his. If you were good at kicking then the two of you trained kicking etc... Please read and I await your comments.

Correct me if i am wrong but does WC use the power side forward or was this a Lee creation?

Hawkins said he took Lee's lead as far as the stance. Many WC men I see are squared in their stance. While one hand might be farther out then the other this is a far cry from a power side forward.

Did anyone say to take away the stop hitting and or intercepting?

Kent, it sounds like you don't need JKD, you are already a Wing Chun man...

Now, if you want to disagree with what Lee was teaching towards the end of his life to his last private student, feel free. HE WAS THERE. Lamar Davis II was not nor were the people who certified him (at least in the final years of Lee's life).

You can choose to ignore these facts or keep living the Jun Fan lie.

That is really your choice but QUIT defining what JKD is or isn't when we have an actual student of Bruce Lee who was there who can CLARIFY it rather then a second generation instructor who was not.

My correction:

Paul you stop living the lie. Ted Wong only knows what Bruce used him for. Dan Inosanto even said that each student of Bruce Lee got just a little of the JKD and not the whole package. Why is Ted Wong being looked at as the end all say all on JKD?

If you do watch some clips of WC people fighting they will go into the power side forward stance. Not the JKD stance or the Jun Fan stance but still a power side forward stance.
A particular group in dismissing the WC in JKD. They say it is not relevant. It is relevant as my post points out. No I do not know all of WC but yes I do think that it is the main part to JKD or at least the modified WC (Jun Fan gung fu) that Bruce taught. If you take away any of those WC principals/theories then JKD falls flat into kickboxing with the power side forward. And yes I will define all I want. If you can't handle the truth then skip over my posts or delete the truth.

As far as Sifu Lamar goes he knows more JKD than you do so I will stick with him. As he says to get a total picture of what JKD is one need to A) start at the beginning where the foundation was laid and B) seek out all that learned from Bruce in all the eras to get more of the total picture.

Power Side Forward

August 7 2007, 1:00 PM

Hi Kent!

Actually, Wing Chun fighters train to favor neither side. It was fencing that Bruce Lee took the power side forward theory from! This came from watching his brother Peter train.

With the rest of your comments, you are pretty much right on target!

powerside forward

August 7 2007, 2:33 PM

I thought I heard on one of Emin tapes that when they straight blast or moving in a straight line he teaches that the powerside goes forward. I do see where they start from the neutral position. Maybe this is where I got it from.
