Invaluable training equipment?

Hey Sifu Davis,

I am trying to put together a list of equipment that would aid in my JKD training. I want the most essential equipment - what kinds of things would I need? and what kinds of equipment would I need, say, if I were to purchase your DVDs?

So far I have
Heavy bag
Kicking shield
Boxing gloves
Bag gloves

I was thinking of getting focus mitts. I know a wooden dummy would be good, but I think that'll come later. Am I missing anything?

Hello Wei Lin!

Sounds like you have a pretty good list going there! If I were you, I would add the double end bag to that list! And yes, a mook jong as soon as possible would be great! That is my single most important piece of training equipment, and keep in mind that I have everything you mentioned and then some!

Spring arms

Hi Wei Lin:

I also find the Spring-arms an extremely
valuable tool! You can practice energy
drills, etc., when you have no human partner.

All the other is important, too.

Have a great day!

Dick

Sifu,
Do you have an idea when your springams will be for sale?

Hello Gregg!

I am working with Clark Thornton of Mook Jong Kong on a few ideas. We'll see what we can come up with! In the meantime, I'll be spending a bit of time in my workshop trying to come up with some good ideas! Thanks for your interest!

Shin guards

August 14 2007, 1:30 PM

If you do any serious low line kicking drills (especially stop kicking) you MUST have a good pair of shin guards. Revgear is the best I've personally ever used. I bought my pair from Lamar years ago. They've taken everything that's been dished at them and then some. Plus they are very lightweight.

Regards,

John M. Drake
