Possibly Closing The Homewood Academy

Hello Everyone!

As of the end of August, the Hardcore Jeet Kune Do Academy in Homewood will probably no longer exist. This is due to problems with renting the rest of the building that the kwoon is located in. The landlord cannot continue to pay $1,600.00 for the part of the building that is not renting just so I can keep the kwoon. I can certainly understand this, as I would not do it either!

We can look at this as a bad thing or a good thing. Always thinking positive, I have chosen to look at it as a good thing, and take it as a sign that the good Lord has better plans for me! This will enable me to put EVERYTHING into the Oneonta Hardcore Jeet Kune Do Academy and truly focus on making it the best Jeet Kune Do training facility in the entire world! With what we already have there, and what I will now be able to do there with the space that used to be the kwoon, it is truly going to be awesome! Also, your fees for training will go down, as it is only $80.00 per month to train at the Oneonta Academy! Those who are already training with me will have no enrollment fee!

The trip to Oneonta is not that far, and those who are TRULY DEDICATED to learning Jeet Kune Do WILL make the drive! I will have to admit that I nearly blew a fuse when I asked how many would come to Oneonta if we closed the Homewood school, and there were three people who said they wouldn't come! That REALLY made me mad! It took everything in me to keep from telling them to hit the door right then! It's funny how people are willing to show up when the mountain comes to them, but when they have to come to the mountain it is a whole different story!

Hardcore Jeet Kune Do is NOT an art of convenience! It is an elite fighting system for those who want to truly learn REAL WORLD SELF DEFENSE! So what if you have to drive forty-five minutes or an hour to get to class? It is ONLY two nights per week! ANYBODY should be able to handle that! I have had one student who drove four and a half hours one way to attend class before ... EVERY WEEK! NINE HOURS on the road to attend a one and a half hour class! THAT is dedication!

So, the bottom line here is are you a DEDICATED STUDENT, or a CONVENIENCE STUDENT? I need DEDICATED STUDENTS who want to train hard and learn this art! If it is convenience that you are looking for, go to the nearest tae kwon do school! After all, there is nearly one on every corner!

I hope to see all of you at the Oneonta kwoon starting in September! It may be a bit farther to travel, but it is a much nicer facility, and there is much more space! There may be some slight schedule changes, but the information will be posted here as soon as it is available! Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions! Take care and God Bless!

Hello Sifu! I know exactly what you mean! People think it's too far or too hard! That's when I say "Goodby!" Lance

Yes, It Is Sad!

August 12 2007, 11:18 AM

Hello Lance!

I know EXACTLY what you are saying, and it is sad that so many fail to realize the value of the training they are receiving! If I was an untrained student (or a student trained in another art) who was seeking instruction in authentic Jeet Kune Do, I would do whatever I had to do in order to gain access to the training! There would be no such thing as forty-five minutes or an hour being too far, or even two hours for that matter! Instead, it would be what nights are class, what time does class start and how much for the training, followed by "Yes, I'll be there!" Forget convenience, this is Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do! Convenience has NOTHING to do with it, nor should it have anything to do with it! It is all about who has the REAL interest and the TRUE dedication to train and learn this art!

elitism

JKD is an elite art or should I say a combat art. it is not like we have JKD school on every corner as the Karate and TKD arts do. It took me 20-35 minutes, depending on traffic, to drive to the Homewood school and I hate to drive through Birmingham but if that is what it was going to take to train then so be it. If you say it is too far for both nights then train one night but do not give it up. Right now at the Oneonta school there is a guy that drives 1- 1 1/2 hours one way from Guntersville and he was just thrilled by Sifu reopening the school in Oneonta. This art takes the dedication to want to train not only at home but to school. Another example is Ken Jones, who drives 4+ hours from Bowling Green, Kentucky for each seminar and hates that he can't attend more. Dick Jeffries makes the long trip from Mobile when he can. DEDICATION. Ask Lance, Ken or Dick how lucky we are to be able to live as close as we do to Sifu and have the oppurtunity to train with him. If you want it bad enough then you will make the drive. Carpool with each other, I have offered to meet people in Pinson and let them ride with me the rest of the way. Look at Michael Holmes. He is so gung ho that he is driving from Calera. I am and am not dogging those that say it is too far but I regret that I stopped training with Sifu back when I first started training with him. Yes my work hours did not allow me to train all the time but I wished I would have tried to find a way to train some. Think long and hard about it is all I am asking.

Kent

Hi Kent, Sifu, Lance & everyone.

Thanks for your kind words, Kent. It's a
pleasure to train with you and the others.
I am thankful that we get the "real thing"
in JKD with Sifu Davis. My thanks to you,
Sifu, also.

I plan to come up when I can. God bless you.
Hope to see you in October.

Dick
