mr davis,

do you think it is a good idea to replace the arms on the dummy with your spring arms?

Dummy Arms

November 7 2007, 12:45 AM

Hello Gary!

I have several mook jongs (eight to be exact ... one at home and seven at my Academy), and each of them serves a different purpose. The springarms give the dummy a more "alive" feel, but do not serve some of the purposes of the original mook jong with hard arms. I recommend that a person have as many mooks as possible, then they can experience everything that the mook jong has to offer!

Springarm

November 7 2007, 8:38 AM

Sifu,

On the Mook Jong that you are producing, are the arms interchangeable? i.e. spring arm can be replaced by a regular hard arm and vice versa. I would be in training for my wing chun dummy techniques, but like the aliveness of the spring arm for maybe some chi sao or trapping drills. I know I don't have room in my home or pocket for both now, but want one for xmas(smile). Please advise

Jeff

Arm Compatability

November 7 2007, 8:52 AM

Hello Jeff!

The springarms and regular arms are not interchangeable in the mook jong trunk. This is due to the fact that the springarm has a different size hole in the back of the mook than in the front. Solid arms require the same size hole. Also, you cannot work the springarms for chi sao on the mook jong anyway. The arm positions are way off for chi sao. Today I am working on a doorway mounting system idea for both my springarms and mook jong. The springarm station would include the necessary position for chi sao rotation if you have two springarms, and also several height adjustment positions for the springarms, as well as a head height target for striking purposes. This mounting system could be put up and taken down in minutes! I haven't decided what this mounting method will cost, but should know by the end of the day.
