Sifu I was going through my notes, from where I do not remember, and found a reference to a technique called Dragons Jaw. I think it is regards to Chi Sao. I was hoping you could break down what it is for me.
Thanks

Not Known to Me!

December 8 2007, 3:39 PM

Hello Joe!

I hope that all is well with you! As for dragon's jaw, I have no idea what that might be! I have never heard of such a thing, in relation to chi sao or anything else for that matter. Maybe Kimsut will know something about it!

Have never heard of it. But wing chun has dozens of branches. I checked a reference book with a rather extensive glossary of terms and could not find it listed. Also googled it and nothing there. If you figure it out please let me know.

Dragons Jaw

Thanks for the responses. The only thing I have in my notes was in regards to Chi sao and it was to use Dragon Jaw to do a change up on sides.

I Have no problems with change ups in Chi Sao but was trying to figure out what the heck Dragon Jaw was lol.
Thanks again

Hi Joe,

OK, I have never heard it called Dragon Jaw but I believe you may be refering to Jow Sao or running hand. During the rolling motion of chi sao call poon sao, your one side moves from bong sao to taun sao. Taun is the most yielding position. From taun the hand circles under the partners arm to assume the fook sao position which is the most controlling and dominant position. AS your partner moves from bong to taun, he circles under to fook. You have now changed sides.

You may alternate these changes in a smooth free flowing exchange from yielding to dominant and back to yielding.

Once you begin to have a free exchange of attacks and defenses from chi sao, your response to the jow sao should be different. As soon as the opponent performs jow your light forward pressure with the fook sao becomes a strike because the opponents obstruction( taun sao) has been removed. This fulfills the wing chun saying that when the hand is released, strike forward. This response is one of the most important that is learned in chi sao. Any time there is a release of the hand it automatically strikes. You will find your hands flying to the target with no warning or planning on your part. It is automatic and non telegraphic, without intention. Your opponents technique is your technique. He determines how he is defeated.
This may not be what you were refering to in your notes but it sounds like it to me.
Kimsut
