Instructional Media How do you like it?

We all like to see instructional media but I was wondering what people prefer to see in this media. Personally i like to see multiple shots from various angles of the technique and a small explanation why the technique is done as shown. Time efficiency; once all the information about the technique is presented and examples are shown there's no need to draw out the section.

This question came to mind when I bought a set of dvds of another art for a deal (3 dvd's for 25) I started watching the dvds and 17 mins into the 1st only 2 techniques had been shown. The presenter drew out the information and made the dvd's some good sleep material. Ha Ha

Hi Andrew:

Without a doubt, Sifu Davis' instructional videos
are top notch! He goes very in-depth and shows
a number of angles and gives great explanations.
You may already have some, I don't know. But,
they are excellent. They are great, along with
class or seminar training under him, to help you
in grading in JKD, also.

I have also found that Joe Lewis and Bill Wallace
have some good tapes. Joe trained with Bruce Lee.
However, Bill Wallace's would be for training that
is not pure Jeet Kune Do. But, they are good for
sparring, kicking, etc.

Jerry Poteet has some great JKD tapes, also.

Hope this helps.

Dick

depends...

If I am new to the art I would perfer that some techniques be drawn out. This way I the "newbie" can better learn and understand what I am trying to learn by DVD. Now as a practitioner I would like to get into the "meat" of things but I also can learn little things that I may tend to over look.

i like when the guy is motivate but he demonstrate the material slowly because, hey you want to learn something not see if the guy is fast or whatever on an instructional dvd. its good to if you can see the teacher really doing the exercise whit a partner that can resist or really participate if its more a drill to see how it have to be done for real not just in demonstration.

i think that dvds can be has good has a class of martial arts and sometimes even better , example for tools lets say punching ,parrys etc etc whit a partner a mirrior and or a camera you can really get good . and a dvd can be watched over and over again if you need to see 123478 times the same technique you can and thats not possible in class .

finally i think it depends on the teacher , if the teacher is a good one youre dvd will propably be good .

ok see you guys

details details details

I like an instructor who gives details about every aspect of the topic. Sifu is the perfect example in his instructional tapes. Two more would be Jerry Poteet and Joe Lewis (footwork series). Your not in a classroom setting where you can ask questions so its important that the instructor give details.

Instructional Media

Hello Everyone!

I have always felt that it is very important to cover any topic as thoroughly as possible whether it is written or video. As already stated, it is not a classroom and questions cannot be asked. Therefore, instruction should be as detailed as possible. Everything should be verty well explained and very detailed, giving the how, why and when of everything shown. That is one reason that I have so many DVDs on the market! YOU CAN ACTUALLY LEARN FROM THEM!

Some DVDs that I have seen are little more than demonstrations. The material sometimes is not accurate either, making it twice as bad for someone trying to actually learn something! I have purchased several that just left me thinking ... WHY? I mean, why even bother to put something out if someone can't learn anything other than how NOT TO make and instructional DVD! The reason ... MONEY! Some instructors only care about getting your money! I have bought so many DVDs that came nowhere near living up to what was advertised! But guess what? No one has EVER complained about the content of my DVDs! That is because I go out of my way to see that I give them something more than worth what they paid for it! Like a private lesson that can be taken over and over! Now THAT is what an instructional DVD should be like!

Keep Blasting!
