Is the rattan ring used for equipment training in JKD? What are the pros and cons of using it and do the cons out-weigh the pros? I have a rattan ring but if it creates bad habbits then i will gladly trash it.

rattan ring

I like it, I have asked that before and mainly the feed back was negative for jkd.The main one, no forward pressure, the second one-- use could use the time to work on something else, the dummy or fighting or anything but the ring.

The big plus- if you like it use it, it small and you can take it anywhere. But you have to put in the time. I would say 500 hours only on the ring.
If you put in 500 hours on the ring I will match it, may be by EMAIL if your up to it.

Hi Guys!

Too many make their decisions to train with something based on whether or not Bruce Lee himself used it! ANYTHING that you feel enhances YOUR personal skill in Jeet Kune Do is valid for YOUR training process! I could care less as to who does or doesn't use it! For example, if you feel that swinging a baseball bat enhances you torque speed and power, by all means swing away!

While I never heard of or saw any photos of Bruce Lee using the rattan ring, I still feel that is is a very valid piece of training equipment, especially for economizing your structure for lin sil die dar movements. I know some who use it for training the roll in chi sao, but if they aren't doing that the right way, that training should be put aside until someone (like myself) can show them the proper way. Also, some rattan rings are too big in diameter. The most useful ones for Jeet Kune Do training have approximately a 12" diameter. Also, the outside of the ring is pretty much useless to us, it is the inside that we benefit from.

Keep Blasting!
